WP Peloponnesian War

Post by Nikel »

It is not that I am going to do it, but perhaps someone will and anyway just wondering [:)]

Would it be possible to create a PW game with the WP engine?

Oh, I was not requesting you to create it. Just if it was possible with your engine.

In one of the interviews you talked in the future about WP2 global, and perhaps SF?

But I do not remember you were interested in ancient wars. Are you?

It sounds like you are running a rather spartan studio as it is.

My day is filled from the moment I wake up. Making a scenario like that takes a lot of time. I don't have the knowledge, I have to design the counters, Adjust the rules, create a rules book.

The forum alone takes 1-2 hours a day.
I am working on the new engine.
Family takes about 3 hours a day. If anyone has read/listened to my interviews they know why.

Then there is the factor of time over money. The goal is get a game out every 18m to keep an income going. My philosophy is to put out quality. So there is a lot of thinking time I put in for design.

If someone else makes this I will guide them. For Operation Husky they made the map put the units, asked me questions. They game me their alpha game. I took 2-3 hours and fixed it up making recommendations after I played it some. I even modified the map. But they did a majority of the work. It came out fairly decently.

Thanks for answering Mr Sousa. You are a busy man, and this is not your cup of tea, just wanted to start a discussion, you never know where it leads you [;)]

There are several boardgames related to this topic, but in the PC, it is mainly unexplored terrain.

I hope somebody will do it in the future, but not a scenario, a proper wargame with several scenarios, it was a long and complex conflict.

In 1991, Avalon Hill/Victory Games put out a solitaire title on the Peloponnesian War. An area game with point to point movement instead of hexagons. It was a bit of an odd game system, where if you were winning as the human player, you had to switch sides and take over handling the losing factions. This was meant to simulate the long tragic nature of the war with its many changes in fortune I suppose. Or it could have just been a cheesy design decision. However, the designer was Mark Herman who was rather renown for his work at the time.

Its's certainly possible to use WP to make a different time period. I made a Napoleonic scenario some time back.

The only real problem I encountered, was the WWII battle line thinking in WP–as in practically all WWII games–that the attacker must attack in superiority to have success. The 19th century battle is difficult to produce. I wanted two opponents to meet head on, one counter on each side. Alvaro helped me by removing the 40% attacker reduction, but the source coded want for odds advantage couldn't be changed.

For WP2, we must all urge him the ability to mode this: that the combat engine can be modified to give average equal results in 1-1 situations.

But now, as my brain calculates this, maybe there IS a sulution. [8|]

Obviously you need to put your family to work "in the family business" and kill two birds with one stone. Profit!
