You posted the same problem in the main forum and got an answer. Double posting a problem can cause readers to waste their time trying to help with things that have already been dealt with. You should delete this problem by editing your post to say problem answered elsewhere.

My answer worked, install linux and run it on that.[:D]

figured it out when a search turned up another long buried thread about same issue.............a program I never use (Audials) had installed a bunch of different sound drivers............uninstalled that program and all is working tip top nd Im back in the WITP saddle!

thanks to all who tried to help as your suggestions pointed me in the right direction!
