attacking subs with carriers

i played wpe and am pretty sure i was able to attack subs with carriers but in wpp i cant figure out how. i have a carrier in a convoy route and a sub 3 hexes away but can not attack it. the weather is clear so it isnt an issue and yes all the obvious buttons are clicked and set right. what am i missing? also do surface ships like carriers dd's need to be in raider mode or fleet to help with convoy protection?

1) You cannot attack subs with carriers in WPP.
2) I always put DDs on fleet mode when using Sub Hunter.

You have an earlier version of WPE. The current ruleset is that subs can only be attacked when it is next to or on a non-ocean hex.

ah thank you for the reply. i was confused since the guide said that carriers act as manual says that a carrier may attack a sub as if it were an air unit and since air units can attack subs i thought maybe carriers could too. anyway thanks again for the reply.
