Won't check for updates, won't register, wont run from installed location

Post by SMK-at-work »

I've just downloaded and it won't check for updates - tries "creating a handle" and fails.

Also couledn't get access to scenarios at my desired location on my computer - had to copy game folders into "Documents" - this is unacceptable - please sort it out!

Plus I can't register - because my user name is already taken! No shit it's already taken - by me for the last 21 years!! I've purchased several games from/through Matrix - what's the story??!!

User name problems is something that Support will have to sort.

I am assuming you did not install in the default location. This can result in some problems. It has been a problem since forever and Ralph blames is on Micro$oft, not the game.

You can try getting a Steam key and accessing the game through Steam. It avoids most problems such as the ones you are having.

(Okay Steve, here is where you do your anti Steam rhetoric)

Just read your other post. Ignore this. [:D]

The check for updates feature never works for me for any Matrix games--just download the patches--there are only two--manually.

For the "can't register" issue, I thought that if you purchase a Matrix game while logged in, the game will be registered automatically...so perhaps your "user name is already taken" because the game is already registered? Maybe log out and log back into your "My Games" page (or whatever its called)?

Lobster,

I have the same problem. I can't update the game. Could you tell me where I can find a stream key, please?

Update 25 Aug: Never mind. After I wrote this I saw the key in another part of the bulletin board. Good! Except the "my page" list doesn't show this game so I can't download the key. I've never had more problems trying to set up a game that I have with this one. It shouldn't have been released until these issues were resolved. [:@]

THIS is the shit that makes me nuts. I’ve been away from it for months, and when I try to load a game today, it can’t find the scenario folders. So I can’t load any but the two scenarios in the training folder. Which brought me a flashback to my earlier inability to create/ edit new scenarios, which I managed to figure out how to do but I can’t remember now. Am I old enough I have to be discarded since I am incapable of upgrade?

Seriously, how do I access this game I paid for?

Contact support. Maybe you didn't register or something. They can help you with this. That's what they get paid for. [;)]

If you have Steam get a Steam key. It will simplify things like automatically updating. Don't ever click on the update on the launcher. It doesn't work. Never has as far as I know. All it does is updates your frustration.

All the files are there. Just click on the button with the folder icon. For scenarios you edit look at Documents/My Games/ The Operational Art of War IV. They get saved in there. If I recall correctly (I'm old so not a sure thing) a Steam key makes that easier too.

Something else that can uncomplicate things is putting the install on the C drive. But Ralph made the program look everyplace but in your pockets for files just in case you did put it someplace else.
