Strike Aircraft

Post by Cross »

Is it possible, that after your planes have flown a mission or two, that they can become unavailable (grayed out)? Even though they may not have sustained any damage.

IIRC, this happened to me once, and I suspect this may have just happened to my current opponent; even though my single Typhoon is continuing to fly sortie after sortie, with decent success I might add

If so, what could be the reason for this? Can I rule out time moving us into dusk or poor weather, because my Typhoon doesn't appear hampered in any way?

We are playing with C&C off but I suspect a command issue.

If not, then I guess he is just holding his planes in reserve for later...

Once the ammo's gone, the plane's gone ;).

Assume his planes had bombs and a cannon. They'll drop the bombs on their first pass (unless attacking a friendly unit or normal bomb path would have them dropping off-screen), but if they cannon still has ammo, they'll be back. Once that cannon ammo's gone however, they're no longer available.

And as you pointed out, If they're hit, they're gone.

Easy to check: Just hit the "eye" icon for the aircraft in the artillery assignement screen.

If ammo is 0, it's gone
If damage >0, it's gone

The US strike aircraft seem to have alot more ammo in my experience. My Stukas seem to be one-strike wonders while this pair of G-****! P-38s of Jim1954 kept coming back every turn until they used all their rockets. Image I think I read somewhere that said certain strike aircraft are programmed to register some damage after they arrive just so they won't come back.

Does anyone know of a good German strike aircraft that will be able to come back many times? I recall that the Jap Zeros are pretty good at repeated attacks.

If a plane has '1' top armour it means it's a dedicated ground attack aircraft. These aircraft will return for another run(s) as long as they have ammo and they are not damaged. Other planes are more or less one shot wonders.

If had Stukas come back numerous times to do cannon and MG runs before

They fire 3-4 times a turn so they are only good about 3 times
