Possible bug of surrendering?

Post by Nirosi »

Hi,

I am surprised here that the defenders in Crotone surrendered. Surrendering come from a retreat result that can not be fulfilled.

From what I understand of the rules, they should have shattered (due to legitimate but too long retreat path over two hexes) and go to the deployment queue. Since they had a retreat path through the adjacent friendly Mech.

10:1 odds...they usually don't survive that...either surrender or shatter.

That is my guess.

10:1... I agree, no chance to see it back in the Deployment queue.

You raced in with 152 Shermans and the 3 old men with WW1 rifles just held their hands up. Not a shot fired.

I assumed that the surrender result could only happen when you had a retreat result that you could not do? Should it not have been a overwhelming odds shatter in this case then?

Was the eliminated unit in "Hold" mode? In this mode it is more difficult for it to be withdraw, but easier for it to be eliminated.

I believe it was. But I am not surprised it is dead. I assume it should be. It is the wording "surrendered" that puzzles me. I assume it applies only to failed retreats. And if it had a retreat order it should have shattered to the queue. If instead is was shattered due to high odds, it should then say shattered.

But Alvaro seems to indicate (if he can confirm officially it would be nice) that a unit can surrender due to high odds even with a retreat path available. No problem with that but I just want to make sure.

The only thing I can think of is that the unit was in port supply due to bad weather and the port was considered the supply source according to the retreat priority.

I did not think of this possibility. Will have to remember it for future games. However the weather was clear that turn in this specific case. I guess it might be fluke in the AI interpretation? I'll keep an eye open if I see it again. In reality it makes no real difference in that particular case.
