Supply Problems in Burma

Post by ggeilman »

Ok, it has happened three games in a row now. The game is having problems determining supply for the Allies in Burma and Thailand. Either they are marked as basic supply or no supply source, even though when I check supply they are clearly in supply from India. It seems to resolve itself after a few turns but not after causing major readiness issues. In this game it is happening multiple times in 1944. This really slows down offensive operations by months.

All I can think of for intermittent supply problems are 1) a rail line cut/blocked, or 2) units in port supply, over capacity of the port or with port interdiction. Either of those possible?

Are you able to use truck supply when the problem occurs?

There’s some real problems with port and main supply confluence, but it’s possible I don’t understand it well enough. Another example is taking Haikou back (with oz/USA too which was a mistake because the units now cannot move).

If you can get some screen shots...maybe someone would see something you are not.

I think you have hit the nail on head. I have also found I need to have additional HQs for the UK and India and it matters where they are placed. I have to daisy chain them. I will take screen shots next time this happens.

I've mentioned this before. The computer doesn't know when to pick one over the other.

Do you want +18% for 2 units (port supply) or +1% for 6 units (main supply) is usually the situation. No matter which way I do it people complain.

I think it's main supply trumps port supply at the moment.

With situations like this it is simpler to do a map adjustment.

Cool! Guess this crops up a lot more in WPE. First time I've heard it said, though. I think some touch-ups would help. For example, we definitely don't want Chinese main supply in Haikou, as the closest origin is light years away. Similarly for the Allies retaking Burma using badly diminishing road supply from Chittagong, getting the 80 + 20 at Rangoon/Moulmein is a godsend.

Is there no way to prioritize port supply until it's gone? It would probably require some extensive programming or algorithms, but something like full port supply for the closest units and then they're on their own.

Without seeing this is it hard to determine the cause.

I suspect there is no "main" support because the rail does not go through a supply source, just port supply. So all the port supply is being used.

That many units I am sure that is the case.

Just would have to see what the units are and where to prove it.

I just took Haikou two turns ago. Most of central and southern China are never getting reinforced.

While we're at it, Chumpton does not receive supplies at all for the Allies. No interdiction. I spent a COMINT unit (you're welcome YueJin) to make sure I'm not missing a blockading fleet at high rec.

Well the southern armies would have a supply issue for sure.
Don't remember how big Haikou is. A 3 so 60 points at most.

I can't read the army names but port supply would be for:

All units south of the river.

I count 12 units that would be in port supply for sure...but something like 22 appear to be in port supply UNLESS some of those are Indian units. Really hard to tell.

Roads are a PAIN.

Also I am not sure China and the Allies can supply each other but never ran into this.

New Zealand invading China? Crazy.

Chumpton's still effected by the scenario rules eskuche, no supply there unless you have one of Bandar Lampung, Kuala Lumpar or Saigon.

Supply for the Chinese is a nightmare, it's why I never bother taking Vinh with them, it randomly cuts out supply for large areas of the map if they hold ports under certain conditions.

Ah, good point on the last. We both overvalued it then.

Yeah, it really doesn't make sense for port supply to trump main supply for China. For India, yes, as it gets weird around Rangoon. Where would China get shipping anyhow?

This is exactly what I am getting for the UK and Indians in Burma and Thailand. Something is definitely bugged.

Looking at this I think the problem with China is losing Changsha. I have managed to hold it and never run into supply issues. Of course I don't have the kiwis invade their either.

Just take a screen shot. Make is 200K and JPEG then you can upload it. No cost.

The china scenario it is picking the port supply the UK took on the island south and running it up over the main supply.
