France Research with all France strategy

France starts with no investment in research, the historical reality seems different to me.
We could with an easy update correct this point by modifying several research investments like :
Anti-aircraft defense
Infantry weapon
Advanced tanks
Naval weaponry
Command and control
This modification would bring more realism in the case of an 'all France' strategy.

What do you think about this?[8|]

If it is just a chit of research investment in these things, it is unlikely that they would be completed by the time of a German invasion. I would sell them all and buy more French units.

If they are completed research levels, I would think advanced tanks is the only one that might be useful but not upset the current balance. AA and especially inf weapons would have a big effect, I think. Naval weaponry would be less useful as the Axis player generally keeps his navy hidden until after the French surrender, anyway. Command and control, not sure.

All of France is quite the rage these days, many try it.

A good solution would be if after vichy is denied the arriving French troops had AA, infantry weapons & aerial warfare and maybe the HQ one level higher. I don't see a need for the rest mentioned.

Allies should also get the choice if they want the French planes or British ones. Brits losing a tac & maritime for the whole game so French get a fighter and completely useless Tac for 6-12 months makes no sense.

All of France is a losing decision for the Axis IMO.

The editor must have all techs at the start of a scenario start at 0%. Unlikely the French will get any progressions before they surrender.

How about if the arriving troops were "French Algerian" with the research. My mother always said if there is a will there is a way.

Starting the French with the research chits doesn't solve the issue. The chance of research hits by June '40 are minimal because there are not many turns due to winter. Even if the French get a research hit they don't have enough MPPs to upgrade many troops.

Starting the French with aerial warfare would solve a lot. At least replace the tac bomber with a heavy tank.

In the end if the Allies anticipate "All of France" it is usually a very painful gambit for the Axis. There are many reasons it is painful including delaying a 1000+ MPP plunder. Taking Southern France & Algeria later in the game (late '41) is a better strategy IMO.

if France has research in progress from the start it can hope to have improvements in September October 40. which makes the "All France" strategy more complicated for the axis and the game more interesting.[:)]

Probably the easiest way to test this idea is to mod the 1939 campaign and try it out.
