Some ideas for other means of improving minor regime relations

Post by Daza99 »

TLDR: Other means to improve relations with minor regimes that is different from majors but also has chance of failure that will make things worse. Events that occur in your regime that could spill over across the border that could improve or worsen relations.

I would like to see some more diplomatic options for minor regimes but they have higher risk. I understand you cannot have this too easy, such as; if you had some stratagem cards that allows you to give gifts or exchange goods or a service to improve relations and then wait until the difficulty roll is within a margin you can meet and your done. What could be interesting is you invite an envoy to come (once you are on friendly terms) to a banquet and you might have some multi-choice questions of what to ask them. This could be tied into what information your spies has opened up.

So like if you ask how the their worker happiness is and it is currently very bad or poor it will be a bad topic to talk about. So if you do not know they have poor worker happiness and choose this option it will put a negative modifier into effect. So the goal is to ask safe questions based on what you do know about them. Once you have answered say 3 sets of questions without making them angry and the banquet went well (another roll involved- with modifiers for your leader who is the host and their charisma stat). Then your relations might increase by 30 points.

Another means might be events that crop up based upon events that has already occurred in your regime. Like a bio-outbreak, what if it somehow spread to your neighboring friendly minor regime? and they ask for help and you send it but fail to help them or if you have the vaccine then it will likely be a success, but there could be low chance roll of something happening to that vaccine upon transit (rebels or bandits ambush it and take all of it).

A choice you made regarding the mad doctor doing experiments where mutants escape and a group of them has crossed over the border and the regime wants you to pay 7k or else you will lose 50 relations with them (or some other random demand).

Even playing a certain fate stratagem could possibly affect the neighbor too and there could be several options to try and amend relations (if it affects them too) which could; if your successful improve relations moving you closer to offering protection or asking them to become a client or unify. When things go south your FF Directors stats will come into play to slightly lessen the impact of relation drop if they have a good charisma stat or whatever.

Having a variety of such events will give story agency where some normal events that crop up in your regime may or may not have a domino effect down the road. Vic did have text adventure like elements as suggested new content in his recent poll, so that could fit into this area.
What would make this interesting is having several paths things could go down. Like the outbreak situation, imagine the minor regime is about to have its elections 4 turns away and the ruling party decides this outbreak is the perfect excuse to declare war on you and seem like the good guys. This could be a rare branch which upcoming elections of that regime is the trigger for. Another might be your spies (certain min number req) gets wind of a plot to take out the leader of the ruling party and you have a choice to inform that leader, but at risk also of exposing the fact you have spies there (chance to have to recall some of them) but still improve relations. Or if your FF has a high char stat then the Leader will overlook the fact you had a spy uncover this, everyone spies on every one right.
