Stalingrad to Berlin scenario

Post by wodin »

Has anyone tried to pull back all German units at Stalingrad to behind the Don before they are surrounded? If so how did this then effect the War?

Just wondering, historical curiosity:)

Which side of the Don? There are 3 German infantry divisions deployed west of the Don at-start, with the rest of 6th Army in what becomes the Kessel. In the Stalingrad to Berlin scenario, Germans don't have the ability to pull anything back before the Soviets attack; your first move is AFTER the Soviet player has made the Kessel

I played this scenario with an opponent who allowed me to withdraw from Stalingrad on turn 1. It made absolutely no difference to the end result. The Red Army turns into Red Army 2.0 much quicker than WITE1,the the rate of attriton and the new entrenchment rules mean that the Axis cannot build defenses that can keep the Red Army at anything like historical rates of advancement, and the weather rules can allow the Red Army even better rates of advance.

It's only a Game

I suspect this scenario is weighted to the Soviets for sure in the long run, provided the Soviet player knows how to build Red Army 2.0. I'd like to see it played out by someone in current version. I tried to get a couple games going as Axis but haven't had an opponent stick yet...I may try again
