Just curious

Post by DavidDailey »

Probably an unanswerable question. What percentage of the regular players are Europeans (and what countries do they hail from), what percentage are Americans and what percentage hail from other countries in the world? I am an American and just assumed most of the other players are Americans.

Based on no data whatsoever I think you might be right that most players are from North America…just

Perhaps 50 : 50 split with rest of world

Maybe 10% Asia
30% Europe

I wish I could speak Deutsch as there quite a few interesting YouTube videos in German. Seems to be a thriving SC community there

I'm leaning, learn some Mandarin, so when new owners show up at my bank, can release/sign over my mortgage.

Speaking of German, learn with Elvis version of Wooden Heart, an old Deutsch classic.

Muß i' denn, muß i' denn
Zum Städtele hinaus
Städtele hinaus
Und du mein Shatz bleibst hier
Muß i' denn, muß i' denn
Zum Städtele hinaus
Städtele hinaus
Und du mein Shatz bleibst hier
There's no strings upon this love of mine
It was always you from the start
Sei mir gut, sei mir gut
Sei mir wie
Wie du
'Cause I don't have a wooden heart

I can say from my YouTube channel (in American English) that I started up a few months ago...and after curiosity of who from where was watching my various SC series, it has broke down to this as an average:

North America 25%
South America 5%
Europe 50%
East Asia 10%
Oceania 5%
Other* 5%

There are weekly variations with Europe having spikes of up to 75%

This is just a small piece of data from one young YT [American]channel....but the geographic analysis was interesting.
Whether this data correlates with your question is unknown. But at least from my angle, Europeans seem real interested in watch SC content more then others. :)

Interesting statistics, while you're doing your research, anything on Gender, by birth?

Probably less then 0% women [:D]

Interestingly YT has a graph for 'gender', but it always says 'not enough data'. Anyway, these days, who could tell. For that matter..who cares.

Here's some other personal data from my SC [only] multiplayer matches opponent origins:

2017-

WiE > UK
WiE > UK

2018-

WiE > USA
WiE > UK
WiE > Spain
WiE > Germany

2019-

WiE > Germany

2020-

WW1 > UK
WW1 > UK
WW1 > UK
WW1 > USA
WW1 > CANADA
WW1 > GERMANY
WW1 > POLAND
WW1 > SINGAPORE
WW1 > GERMANY
WW1 > SINGAPORE
WW1 > ARGENTINA
WW1 > GERMANY
WW1 > GERMANY
WW1 > SPAIN
WW1 > GERMANY
WW1 > USA
WW1 > UK
WW1 > USA
WW1 > Unknown (never chatted)
WW1 > USA
WW1 > SINGAPORE
WiE-FALL WEISS > USA

2021-

WW1-TRENTO ALPINE FRONT TEST >USA
WW1 > USA
WW1-RACE TO PARIS > SPAIN
WW1-RACE TO PARIS > SPAIN
WW1-LUDENDORFF > SPAIN
WaW > USA
WW1 > GERMANY?
WW1-MONTENEGRO GAMBIT (eXploit) TEST > FRANCE
WW1-MONTENEGRO GAMBIT (eXploit) TEST > FRANCE
WiE > SINGAPORE
WW1-BALKAN VARIATIONS MOD > CANADA
WW1-POLISH-SOVIET WAR MOD BETA TEST (on going) > POLAND
WaW > (on going) > USA

So..more data showing a strong European presence.

Didn't include about 6 or so ghoster's, poor sports, or thin skinned millenial rage quitters back in 2020 with multiplayer WW1 in 2020. I can tell you though that those were ALL from the USA.

Wondered about that I did.

It may be that Europeans are a sizeable majority. Quite disappointing to a representative of America, the greatest nation on earth

Oh..I don't know about that statement now. Most Americans I know outside of colleagues (And I'm born and raised here) are quite ignorant of history and especially geography.

Ignorant..and don't care.

Generally, [and I have worked around the world for 4 decades on behalf of American interests], people of other nations have a far greater knowledge of history and geography then my own.

So..when you add that to the metric "the greatest nation on earth"...that might skew the notion considering the small slice of deficiencies I just illustrated above.

I would hazard to say, with the current state of affairs in the USA, with its internal political conflicts over even a health care emergency..that the USA would have LOST WW2 if they are were in the same state of affairs as they (we) are in now.

Lost.

Probably the moderators will give me a warning...so be it. I had to answer to the statement from the OP.

Come on man, you know the thing. I'd start my 1st Squad here:

1) General Patton, "A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week."
2) Elvis Presley, "The army teaches boys to think like men."
3) Audie Murphy, "No soldier ever really survives a war."
4) Alvin York, "I ain't a-going to war. War's killing, and the Book's agin' killing! So war is agin' the Book!
5) Deerhunter, "Stanley, see this? This is this. This ain't something else. This is this. From now on, you're on your own"
6) Rambo, "They drew first blood"
7) Animal Mother, "You talk the talk. Do you walk the walk?"
8) Colonel Kilgore, "You either surf or fight. That clear?"

We are the greatest nation on earth! Just look at our nation debt! No other nation on earth can compare to the crushing debt we are in!

I....have no idea what's going on here.

Paul Hardcastle's War Veteran sang the same thing:

In 1965 Vietnam seemed like just another foreign war,
But it wasn't.
It was different in many ways, as so were those that did the fighting.
In World War II the average age of the combat soldier was 26...
In Vietnam he was 19.
In Vietnam he was 19.

(TV announcer's voice)
The shooting and fighting of the past two weeks continued today
25 miles west of Saigon
I really wasn't sure what was going on (Vet's Voice)

Paul Hardcastle... not bad.
Redgum's was better [link]

"Mum and Dad and Danny saw the passing out parade at Puckapunyal
It was a long march from cadets.
The sixth battalion was the next to tour and it was me who drew the card
We did Canungra and Shoalwater before we left,
And Townsville lined the footpaths as we marched down to the quay
This clipping from the paper shows us young and strong and clean
And there's me in me slouch hat with me SLR and greens
God help me - I was only nineteen

From Vung Tau riding Chinooks to the dust at Nui Dat
I'd been in and out of choppers now for months
And we made our tents a home, V.B. and pinups on the lockers
And an Asian orange sunset through the scrub.

And can you tell me, doctor, why i still can't get to sleep?
And night time's just a jungle dark and a barking M.16?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me - I was only nineteen

A four week operation, when each step can mean your last one on two legs
It was a war within yourself
But you wouldn't let your mates down 'til they had you dusted off
So you closed your eyes and thought about somethin' else

And then someone yelled out "Contact", and the bloke behind me swore
We hooked in there for hours, then a God almighty roar
And Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon
God help me - he was goin' home in June

And I can still see Frankie, drinkin' tinnies in the Grand Hotel
On a thirty-six hour rec. leave in Vung Tau
And I can still hear Frankie, lying screaming in the jungle
'Til the morphine came and killed the bloody row

And the Anzac legends didn't mention mud and blood and tears
And the stories that my father told me never seemed quite real.
I caught some pieces in my back that I didn't even feel
God help me, I was only nineteen.

And can you tell me, doctor, why I still can't get to sleep?
And why the Channel Seven chopper chills me to my feet?
And what's this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means?
God help me, I was only nineteen."

(hello from Aus.)

Excellent! The Yanks, salute the Aussies, from the land down under!

Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
Trained to live off nature's land
Trained in combat, hand-to-hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage take from the Green Berets
Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret
Back at home, a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her his last request
Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret
