Upgrading while in multiplayer

I'm playing multiplayer via PBEM++. I need to upgrade to get past a bug that's killing me. I'm on v01_01_00 Beta. If myself and the guy I'm playing with both upgraded to the latest version, will we be able to continue the game? E.g. if we both upgrade before finishing our turn will the save file on the server be OK?
