Game shuts off

I start a senario playing against the AI. During the execute air directives the game goes black, the main screen appears (the one with all my icons). Evidently something is kicking in

What version are you using? Not sure what you mean by the main screen, but it's very possible (I think especially on lower spec computers) for the game screen to go black during periods of the AI and I think the air execution phase. Have you let the game continue to run for a bit to see if the map returns and the game continues? If the game is not continuing on, can you check to see if a crash dump file is being created. It would be named like WarInTheEast2.exe.<number>.dmp in C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\CrashDumps ? If there is one, you can zip it and upload it here or email to 2by3@2by3games.com. It would be good to get that with a save so we can run the Ai turn as well or tell us what scenario you are starting if it happens in the first AI phase. You could also attach a dxdiag for your computer which might help diagnose a problem. Thanks.

using version 01.00.11. after the blackout the game completely shuts down. I am very familiar with the blackout when the AI is thinking. can't find any crash dump files. I'll do a save and upload it (never done that before}. whats a dxdiag? I tried playing war in pacific ae and screen went crazy[&:]

It's a diagnostic test for your PC. You type that into your start area (lower left corner) and it will create a file with info on your system. Then you can save it off as a .txt file and upload that file. I assume WitP AE used to work for you? Could something be going wrong with your hardware?

Look for the "Click her to upload!" in the bottom right as your entering your message.

WITP AE is a very old game. Mine is set to run in Windows Vista Compatibility mode, but I think I also had to do something else to get it to display reasonably when I first installed. That's a few years now and can't be sure what I did. It certainly isn't going to like the hi-res setups that are common now, and a vanilla install on a new PC will probably have issues, so I suspect that is unrelated to any WITE2 issues. Try the WITP AE forum to get advice on how to fix that.

I never experienced black out screens during AI processing of WITE2, it is always displaying and updates the text and percentage at the top of the screen regularly as it goes along. However, some people reported the Soviet AI freezing completely 1943 onwards. Are you continuing a game that you started on the old PC which has advanced that far?

This is reported as fixed in a new Beta version which is just issued. It needs to be downloaded and installed from the WITE2 home page, it won't come automatically by using the Updater. Check the entry in the forum for the warnings about what has changed and effect on current games before you decide to try it, as it is still Beta and may have issues. But the fact that the devs have already patched it to x.02 (and there's a mini patch available for an issue with Velikie Luki scenario) shows they are monitoring the forums and reacting quickly to any reported issues reported by the community.

can understand your frustration but you were asked above to provide a dxdiag file which is needed to check for the problem.

I presume you have take the advice in post 8 and downloaded the latest beta - that might solve the problem for you.

Since no-one else is reporting anything similar it most likely is an issue with your set up (hence the need for the dx data).

I finally got WITE2 to work. I have no idea how it happened. I upgraded to the latest beta nothing. Then for 5 straight days I scanned my compute to get the latest drivers. Now it works[&:][&:][&:][&:][&:][&o][&o][&o][&o]
