Help with Submarine/ASW activities

Post by CatLord »

Hi guys, I need some help here:

It seems that when I send a SC patrol for Anti-Sub warfare in an hex with a beach, with status Patrol/Do not retire, because one of my plane in ASW activities have spot an ennemy SS here the turn before, often, the TF ends up being "docked" because it is a "friendly" based... :(

I have the same problem with sub send in subpatrol to hex with beaches. This is very irritating as there are lot of them around Lunga, and my sub end up being "docked" as well from time to time... :(

What am I foind wrong ?

I am pretty certain that even though both are docked they both still function normally. i have had both TF types in a port docked, the sub has hit incoming bombradment or invasion TFs and the anti-sub TF has found and attacked enemy subs.

Are you by any chance assigning the target hex as a home port for your ships/subs?

A surface TF can be either docked or at sea in a base hex. If you want a surface TF to patrol the hex rather than tie up at the dock, set it's destination normally (left click on the base) then go back and right click the same base. You will notice it now has a destination of the hex, rather than the base. If you set it to patrol and also click undock (if it's already docked) it will stay out there patrolling until it runs out of fuel. TFs tied up at the dock will sometimes react, but they will be a lot more reliable if they are "at sea". I does make a big difference.

A disadvantage of this is that they can now be attacked by subs even in a level 3+ port. They aren't considered by the program to be in the port. This is especially useful for ASW groups.

Another advantage is ships at sea are a lot more difficult to hit by level bombers.

You can also do the same with subs if you want to patrol a base hex.
