A question about the updated AI

Post by alexvand »

I love that work is still being done on this game!

I was wondering if one of the issues I ran into with the AI has been resolved. Usually after a few years of play the AI would just stop doing things. All the corp would just sit there.

Has this been improved?

Oh yeah. Are you following along with my 1812 playtest comments? LOTS of AI improvements to get the computer opponent to make strategic advances toward an enemy capital, strategic withdrawals when outnumbered, and long-range redeployments toward enemy nations at war.

I finished that 1812 game (AI Great Britain won; the victory screen does work btw...) and restarted 1812 to verify changes are good. I found some issues and worked them out. Once I get a clean 1812 start (June-December) I'll post another write-up. It's looking good. After that I want to play 1805 again to verify everything looks good for the early game (1805-1806ish). Then a couple weeks for some pbem group testing and I'll be sending the v1.23.08 official update package to Matrix. Then everyone can try out the new and improved AI along with all of the other bug fixes and enhancements.

Holy crap. I purchased this game in 2011 and, due to life etc, never figured out how to play it. Now that I am retired I decided to go back and try it, and I am gob-smacked it still receiving patches and updates. This is fantastic.

Looking forward to diving in.

I am slowly resuming code development work so that I can get this v1.23.08 update out. Past couple of months have been very difficult for me. But yes, this next update should be very good for everyone, never perfect, but should attract former players back to playing again. That's the goal here.
