soviet factories

Post by Popov »

I was wandering if I should move the factories in Kiev. Since one can move only
9 factories to the Urals, I must decide wich ones to evacuate. Maybe it is more important to move troops and sacrify the Kiev factories.

There is a point about it in the Dave's Univeres http://warinrussia.daves-universe.com/.

But what is unknown to me, is what happens when loosing factories? Will there be new factories built in other cities or not? I didn't play so much to know it.

But in real life, a country can decide to build new factories, to replace the destoyed facories. I think in WIR a lost factory is lost forever.

But I am not 100% sure. Are there any COMMENTS?

They are lost forever, Popov. So you must prioritize which factories you will need to evacuate on the basis of what is critical to late war efforts, and what you want to reserve for possible threats to Moscow/Leningrad. Heavy industry is normally very important, otherwise no real suggestions for you.

SO it is a mistake to abandon the heavy industry of Kiev?

If I have more heavy industries will fewer factories produce more?
Or should I have more factories in order to produce more?
What will maximazie production? More factories with less heavy industry or less factories with more heavy industry?

In is not easy to understand ...

I remember reading in an old post heavy industry deturmines the % of full production your factories may grow to, but never more than 100%. So if your heavy industry is 75, then your factories can only grow to a maximum of 75% of what they COULD produce total. If your heavy industry is 130, then your factories can grow to it's full 100% capacity, and you have some buffer for strategic bombing and such. Germany starts at 72 in '41, so when it goes up to 75 later i noticed my max capacity factories increased production slightly to reflect it's new higher 'production cap'. Sov's start at well over 100.

Since the Sovs have lots of heavy industry, some of it may be expendable if it looks like moscow might fall. I would save kiev's and dnep..sk's heavy industry, and perhap's leningrad's, but after that unit factories should be top priority. Recon might be next, since i believe they have AT capibility and so worth saving, and arty is a judgement call based on your confidence of holding moscow in '41. It stinks to lose arty factories, but there's a big list of better things to save!

When playing as Ivan, I prioritize thus:

1. Heavy Industry
2. Aircraft
3. AFV
4. Artillery

OK, thanks.

Since 100+ industry is enough, 135(without Kiev) or 140 should make no big difference. So I think I will abandon the Kiev's heavy industry (5). Dnepropetrovsk(15) is much more important.

whenever you rail ANY factory, it's production starts back at 1 in the Urals, so neither is more important than the other!
