Current Situation - I seem to be lagging!

Post by anthonykevinluke »

Hi, veteran player of the original GG War in the East and have now updated to WIE2; great games all. My question is based on looking at some AAR's on playing the AI and then on my own game (Fully updated to v1.01.09). Game is vs the AI on a mix of Sov morale on 100 and 110 (flicked back and fwds a few times to see the difference in AI behaviour). Game date is 31 Aug 41 (T11) and losses are:

German - men -205546, guns - 1912, afv - 920, acft - 1578
Soviet - men - 2392000 (1743629 captured), guns - 39239, afv - 10489, acft - 8825

I am still 5 or 6 hexes from Leningrad and there is a wall of Soviets all the way there and across the river as well leading up to the Lake Lagoda ports. AGC is at Vyzama and on a line east from there. AGS South has Kiev and half way to Dneproptovosk (sp?) and Zaporozhye, and a few hex's from the opening into the Crimea.

There seems to be a huge number of Soviet units still available and Leningrad looks totally unachievable. So ... is this the norm or have I screwed something up? thoughts and comments welcome.

Cheers,

AKL

looks pretty normal, esp off a 110 game.

One trick with the AI is lots of feints, it mostly responds to what you have in the front line so if you appear to weaken that, it will match you. May give you a turn or 2 of operational freedom till it closes you down again.

The other is to attack on 4-5 sectors, it should be weak on at least one

The difficulty levels are on a different scale to that of WITE1, so my suggestion would be to start on around Normal and then up the difficulty if are finding the game too easy to win. As Loki says there are strategies to defeat the AI once you learn how it moves but a straightforward approach is not going to work once you go up the scale.
It is (or at least was) possible but not easy to defeat the AI on Hard. Some suggestions to look at here: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4988477
The lark, signing its chirping hymn,
Soars high above the clouds;
Meanwhile, the nightingale intones
With sweet, mellifluous sounds.
Enough of Stalin, Freedom for the Ukraine !
