Hi all,
ORIGINAL: USSAmerica

We visited the house yesterday and were pleased to see that most of the trim work is installed, and the painters have been at work. Still no siding for our house yet, so no exterior pictures today.

Nice pictures Mike!

Hi Zovs! Welcome to THE THREAD!!!

Counting back to the original WitP forum and now the AE forum, this is the 7th or 8th incarnation of THE THREAD!!! Each of the previous versions were closed and locked after we reached 1000 pages, to keep the forum software from choking on it. So, you can think of this version to really be THE THREAD!!! almost reaching either 6500 or 7500 pages! [;)]

I would check the local laws/regulations for tax assessment purposes. If the house is not finished, the taxes may be lower. If that is the case, just leave a little bit of siding off as long as the wall is well protected otherwise . . .

My greataunt said that when she was teaching on a reservation that the government built the Indians new homes. The new homes had their interior trim torn off and burned for firewood. Then they wanted new homes built because theirs were trashed . . .

That tax dodge sounds familiar. Canadian cities require that finished basements be appraised as part of the property value which equates to taxes. Many basement renos leave the doors uninstalled so that the appraisal cannot be completed...
The basement bathroom is usually the exception, having a door installed for obvious reasons (to keep the noise in the room! [:D]).

Good evening, Thread brethren and sisteren!
I have not been up for many, many, moons but have now retired and have slowly progressed a wee bit in learning how to BE retired. Without the demand of a weekly bulletin, sermon, and many other ecclesiastical duties, including the ever present list of meetings, my wife is going nuts trying to keep me from turning into a tree (which, at 72 could be a huge temptation) specially combined with many numerous temptations - BOOKS TO READ for FUN! Also, I am going to re-enter the conflict in the Pacific on (I hope) a more regular basis!! EGAD!
What's next??? A possible visit to an actual on the field with a crowd and shouting and noise football game might loom in the future!!
