From what I have seen, it seems like smaller numbers of men (e.g. 1 regiment against a bunch of divisions) seem to get worse combat rolls very often in comparison to larger numbers of men. Number of troops rather than just the paper CVs at least seem like they matter. If you don't split down into divisions or if you have multiple units rather than just 1, it at at least seems like the rolls tend to be better.

That is just my subjective impression from looking at combat results though, could be wrong.
I think that is because elements get damaged during combat and then the CV drops.
The lark, signing its chirping hymn,
Soars high above the clouds;
Meanwhile, the nightingale intones
With sweet, mellifluous sounds.
Enough of Stalin, Freedom for the Ukraine !

True true for sure :) Thank you Tyronec

I believe the combat results to have an erroneous error on display. Since really 100 aircraft were shot down out of 100 aircraft, 28 were other types of planes normally shown in the recon area I believe. So either an error of the planes were placed in wrong area when the reporting was done and is a programing issue to fix it is my take.

Gam3r - patrol aircraft are usually counted as utility aircraft. Why it did not count them as such in the report display but did for the casualty numbers is probably a bug. It may be that the MBR-2 aircraft are mission aircraft (thus considered bombers in the mission displayed numbers) but are utility aircraft (and counted as such in the casualty numbers).

Turn 8 (Real Time Update)

Air Execution

I get another Auto interception in the Black Sear. This time the Rumanians auto intercept and have a bit of payback from last turn without any Soviet fighter escorts around. So I have gotten 2 auto intercepts now over the Black sea but not on land. Soviets lost 161 bombers trying to keep Odessa port closed so far. 100 during Soviet Air Phase and another 61 during my Air phase. Is it worth it? Only the Soviets can answer that question.

Turn 8 (Real time update)

Air Phase

To me after recon it looks like the 2 Cav have been left out by themselves. I recon'd pretty well so what I see is what there is. I hope.

Turn 8 (Real time update)

Air Phase

Kiev looks to be interesting this turn. I believe I should be able to get a few Soviet Divisions this turn with most of III PZ Corps at Kiev.

I love playing with Soviets in rough terrain :)

Turn 8 (Real time update)

Air Phase

Either I am 100% right that there are NO Soviet units in the Gomel area or I am totally wrong and Air Recon picked up nothing. I am going with there are no Soviet units here & all open country beyond.

Turn 8 (Real time update)

Air Phase

Very sparse Soviet line in the vicinity North East of Gomel like I expected. I should be able to get at least one of the Cav Divisions into a pocket maybe two but will see what the retreat gawds have in store for me.

Turn 8 (Real time update)

Air Phase

Pretty much what I expected in the Moscow area. Just like in the south near Kiev that I did before on retreat paths in an earlier turn. Here is another prime example of Vyazma being a retreat point and if done correctly I can get one or two of those units circled in orange to retreat to Vyazma. I just have to put a ZOC near Ugra (marked in red) South of Vyazma first and attack from the Yellow arrow to have them retreat to Vyazma.

Circled in Green is a key hex to take to get 37 Cav division into a pocket. I saw from previous combat reports this division can take a couple of hits.

Of course this is all speculation since retreats are more random in WITE2 but the gravity of cities love to pull retreats to them ;-) See if I am right.

When the Soviets retreat and give me no free units I have to be creative.

Turn 8 Real time Ground Move

Ground Phase

Nikolaev does not have anything in it(shown with red arrow) since I can actually move into it if I wanted. I am going to keep the blue hex from converting to German control and try and retreat those 2 CAV division to either Nikolaev or the Circled blue hex. 1RFSS is going to try get to the where the orange arrow points to. I have more than enough movement to do so.

Turn 8 Real time Ground Move

Ground Phase

I move the 170 Inf Division NE so the 9th PZ Division can break down into regiments to move. Remember I don't want to convert the blue circled hex to keep it a retreat path. So a broken down division into regiments I wont convert the hex.

Turn 8 Real time Ground Move

9th PZ completes the move. Now lets look at the defense potential of the Cav Divisions next to see which may route out.

Turn 8 Real time Ground Move

Ground Phase

Looks like 1st Odessa Cav may route out if not the 1st attack more than likely the 2nd depending on how much force I use & if I leave my HQ in range or not in range for command plus or minus.

Turn 8 Real time Ground Move

Ground Phase

I decide to form back into a division and attack. I also decide to leave the HQ outside of the 5 hex range. I get a retreat result into the city. I thought for sure 1st Odessa Cav would route out.

Turn 8 Real time Ground Move

Ground Phase

I move Inf Divisions into place to form the pocket marked in orange. Doing this early makes it more likely that units retreating will route out when retreating next to enemy. But I take the chance because I rather have a good defense since Jubjub is very aggressive on attacking and I prepare for that. If they both route out, oh well it was a nice try.

I will attack with the Infantry because this is a City hex and attacking Cities with PZ's is a no no. I already lost enough tanks last turn from Jubjub's attacks.

I also get rid of 53 Cav Division from last turns surround marked in Red.

Turn 8 Real time Ground Move

Ground Phase

2 Cav Division captured successfully. It is a miracle that 1st Odessa Cav didn't route out. Plus I think 1/2 the population of Nikolave migrated out. The migration took forever to complete. I should have 8,000 more prisoners next turn if all goes well from these 2 Cav Divisions.

Now the PZ division and Moto Brigade will pull behind the line to rest again.
