The USA does not get to have 5500 entrants for each event for every Burmudan entrant. (Or 14 for every Australian entrant). So, a per capita measure is misleading.

Fair point.

Not to mention that entrants near the top, but that can't get placed with their real team, can just switch over to a vacant slot in some tiny place, and compete from there.

Ireland had an impressive golf team. Both were technically from Northern Ireland, though. Same for Slovakia, with a South African entrant.

Already shared my favorite memories of Olympics. Lets not forget the most interesting fan of the Olympic history. The Corporal. Have you heard the Bill Burr comedy bit on the driver after the games with AH?

San Marino aced the "Medals x Population" rankings [:'(]

1 San Marino 3 33,931 11,310

That's the equivalent of Lamezia Terme going to the Olympics and getting 6 medals with two Silver. I honestly don't see my hometown pulling that feat.

I'm pretty amazed to see India last [&:]

93 India 7 1,380,004,385 197,143,483

She was tied for second one year with two other people and she lost the shoot off. They should have awarded three silver medals but no bronze medal.

This happened in the male high-jump, with Italy and Qatar sharing the gold medal and the third getting bronze. However, the speciality must allow for medal-sharing in their rules. This is why it can happen with, for example, high-jump but soccer has penalties shoot-outs.

I read somewhere that this is mostly allowed in sports where an extended challenge can result in a high probability of injury. So, "jumping until one clears and the other fails" can be dangerous, while in a penalty shoot-out only morale can be injured. I never bothered to check if this is the real reason.
