WiF unstable (unusable)

I've been trying to play World in Flames with a friend and found the game unstable, to the point of being unusable - and we cannot complete setup for the game. We've both reinstalled the game.

The issue is:
- He invites me to a game
- We commence setting up (using the Global War set up)
- We get a couple of countries set up - the most recent time as far as Japan
- Get an error message saying we've lost communication and I need to reenter the game through the forum
- He tries to save the game
- I reenter the forum and he invites me to the saved game
- I click join and nothing happens (the WiF maps don't load), his screen says that he is waiting for me to join (even though I've already accepted it)
- We've tried both the saved game he has and autosaved games, nothing works

What are we doing wrong - we have tried restarting about 10 times and nothing works, we can't even get as far as completing set up!

This is your mistake, when you load a saved game nobody invites anybody (I guess you were trying in the lobby), BOTH of you load the same savegame (check the hour and the number ) and the lobby connects both. No need to invite and join.

I'd be more concerned with why are you losing communication so often. Although originally this was reported several times, it is not something reported lately. What sort of internet services do you and your friend have?

I think you are both right - we were doing it wrong, but the application itself has some stability issues.

My network is great - mesh wifi and internet speeds of 50Mb/sec. My playing partner is in Peru and has problems with his internet reliability. I think even with poor/slow connections, I would have thought that the application itself would be a lot more tolerant of these and not simply fail. We've had multiple failures during set up.
