Last call for OOB changes
I found a problem with the 8.0 update for the USMC, and Bryan is incorporating the fix. Now, we're getting down to the last call on suggested changes. I'm not certain about this, but I would think that the changes for 8.0 may hit just about the same time as MCSE goes retail. I would very strongly recommend that any last-minute adjustments to the OOBs be posted here, and I will forward them to Bryan. He is the man doing all the work, and I have definitely tested his patience, God bless him. If you have suggestions, please speak up. Remember, this will be the final official Matrix patch for SPWaW. This is the reason for all the delays. The OOB/patch team & contributors want to make sure we've left no stone unturned or oddity left unresolved. After this, the newer in-house projects will be the primary focus. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Can you please make the M4 a little weaker? It seems no other tank is a match for the might!KG Erwin wrote:I found a problem with the 8.0 update for the USMC, and Bryan is incorporating the fix. Im making war, not trouble~

Jess,
Be careful for what you wish for. This team member is a virulent USMC supporter, and I'm in league with ...the M3 Satan! Muhahhahhhahhh-flaming death to entrenched ANYBODY......ahem, now, the M4 is a decent close support weapon against pillboxes and such--but, against Japanese AT guns the da mn thing lives up to its name as a friggin blowtorch. Remember, I'm speaking as a Marine advocate, Sea Bats be d amned. The only thing that keeps your precious M4s intact is a squad of heavily-armed Marines following in your tracks, so don't forget that, mac. :p
Disclaimer: I am not nor ever have been a real Marine, but I play one in SPWaW. I have not earned the right to say that phrase which unites all Marines, past or present. However, the USMC is the best fighting force that ever existed, and I admire them as much as a civilian can.
Here, Jess, I'll add my last thought in Russian: Морские пехотинцы Соединенных Штатов будут самым лучшим воюя усилием всегда существовало. :p

C'mon , guys
This time it's serious. Marauder Mel & his crew have been going over these OOBs time & again, and there's always something that needs tweaking. The minor countries still need further study, so to our brethren in Europe, now is the time to make your opinions known.

Here's a few:
JAPAN:
75mm Type 94 Mountain Howitzer With a range of 25 it should never have been classified as off-board artillery. (75mm Mtn Btry) And why a range of only 25 anyway? That's a tad short when compared to other howitzers of the era, especially the US 75mm Pack Howitzer (range of 120!!)
Type Bo 75 MtnG Howitzer Listed as 75cm! And, with a range of 120 should definitely be availible as off-board
Type 38 75mm FG should be availible for off-board
20cm Rockets, with a range of 48 belong on board, not off (unless you want to classify them as seppuku weapons)
25mm Triple vs 25mm Dual AA The 25mm Dual was hand aimed by an operator sitting on the mount and aiming it like an MG. The triple was mounted on a regular mount, and aimed with cranks & gears, making it more accurate, yet the Dual has an FC of 6 while the Triple has an FC of 4? A good comparison would be US 20mm and 40mm naval AA mounts. The 20mm version would shake the bejesus out of you and was a bear to aim (I've fired them) while the 40mm was a powered mount less subject to swings of the aiming point.
Typw 1 Ho-Ha and Type 1 Ho-Ki halftracks...neither has room for an average (15-20) Japanese squad?
Transports cannot carry armor, gun teams and cav units due to weight limits? Kind of makes it difficult to do any Japanese beach assaults, no?
HQ units with just pistols and (after '40) grenades? No rifles? No swords?
A Squads with a bayonet as the primary weapon? Maybe as the 2nd or 3rd slot, yeah...but primary? Not to mention it sounds really weird to hear them ricochet off a Sherman.
GERMAN:
122mm Capt Howitzer only availible in Dec '49? Who did they capture it from in 1949???
Why do off-board 75, 105 and 150mm batteries have HEAT ratings?
105mm Pz SF IVa only availible in Dec '49?
MG MC units have no grenades?

Thanks, guys...
...for your input. I'll make sure Bryan checks out this thread. Bernie, the Jap artillery ranges have been corrected, but the 25mm Dual & Triple AA have not. The German 122mm Capt How should be available beginnning in Dec 1941. Do you have the 8.0 OOB dated 8/29/03? This was the last one the MCSE team was issued.

Nope, the newest I have is 8/28 on some files. And since I'm not getting security warnings in my PBEM with Jess, I'll bet he doesn't have them either.KG Erwin wrote:...for your input. Hmmm... I wonder when those came through, because I sure don't see them in my email folders for MCSE, and I saved everything.
What, me worry?
How about emailing them out again? I'd like to run through the MC again, and see how it all works with those fixes.KG Erwin wrote:...for your input. I'll make sure Bryan checks out this thread. What about the other Japanese items I mentioned?KG Erwin wrote:...for your input. I'll make sure Bryan checks out this thread. The HQ units especially! I can't imagine a Japanese officer without his sword, and HQ companies had to have had rifles, no?
The transport weight limit is another real problem. I did a Japanese full campaign not long ago, with arty & gun teams in my core force. Imagine my surprise when I came to a Japanese beach assault! The horses floated okay, but that's all they did.

What, me worry?
OK, Bernie...
I directed Bryan to this thread, so the Jap OOB will be checked out. Yes, the JA HQ needs to be better armed, with swords or bayonets or whatever. Besides, you well know I'm a USMC fan, so the Jap commander needs something to either commit hara-kiri or make a suicidal banzai charge once my Marines have him cornered.
The Japanese transport issue definitely needs to be checked. We'll look into it. Thanks for your input. Glenn. PS I'm sending you the 8/29 OOBs.

Thanks Glenn. If I find anything else I'll drop it in here.KG Erwin wrote:I directed Bryan to this thread, so the Jap OOB will be checked out. Bernie wrote:How so? I could understand wrong pictures creeping in (some have been in there for almost a decade and were wrong to start with), but how is that related to OOB problems in the scenarios?
I belive its where classes and what not have been changed to make for a specific unit in a scenario
I may be wrong
But in any case its a small matter but it would be nice if we all combed over the encyclopedia and joted down a list of all the units that have wrong pictures attached to them
Ah! Okay, now I understand.Fallschirmjager wrote:I belive its where classes and what not have been changed to make for a specific unit in a scenario

The only problem I see with your idea is that few of us are that good at unit identification. I know I'm no expert in that area. Yeah, if the unit is an infantry squad, and the picture show a bomber I might be able to tell it's the wrong picture, but any more detail than that and I'm lost.

In most cases its as easy as that
Browse through the Noraway OOB
You will find a destroyer....the unit picture is some sort of tank
Look at the Italian OOB and you will see a 47m AT gun that has a picture of a transport plane
There are about a dozen or so of these
