Winter question

Post by Hetulik »

Hi All,
Loving the game. Just about to hit my first winter playing the Germans vs the AI. (Nov 9th presently) Trying to prepare for the winter. I did some reading on the forums and understand the importance of supply and having depots nearby the front lines, and understand the 1st winter rules based on the manual.

My question is this. What do folks do with their airforce during the winter? Do you leave it in place? I know it won't fly on blizzard turns. Put it on rest? Shift it to farther back airfields? Or do folks put it in the Axis reserves entirely?

I appreciate the guidance!

I would suggest sending most of your air force to reserve in winter. Not necessarily all (there may be a temporary break in the weather and you might want to use a little bit of air on occasion even if there is bad weather), but most. This will save you supply, whereas if you put them on rest you will still need to supply them. Be sure to bring them back a few turns before winter is actually over though, so there is time for ground crews to reinforce and for the supply AI to realize it needs to supply your airfields again.

That is great advice Beethoven1. Greatly appreciate your reply. You have a very good point especially about the supply commitment if they were on rest.

Send majority of your bomber wings back to the reserve but leave fighters on map. Fighters consume much less supply and they'll come in handy for fighter cover in case the Soviet AI launches any GA/GS missions.
