Newbie Question

Post by R@lph »

I keep seeing references to H2H,

Exactly what is H2H, do I need it and if so where do I get it from.

Cheers,

Ralph.

H2H (which stands for "Human to Human") is a mod for Spwaw.
If you owe the full spwaw install, you don't need H2H.
The two things are infact alternative one to the other, tough many people have a double installation and playing both.

Resisti nailed it. If you download H2H, then make a second complete copy of the game, rename it H2H, and make sure the install path of H2H leads to it when you install. Welcome aboard!

I always thought it stood for 'Head to head'....looks like I learned something new.

I think I've persuaded my mate to go for H2H. He particularly likes the winter camo, since he knows that with my crappy screen I have difficulty seeing the icons, and even being able to tell what terrain I can see and what I can't.

Why do people keep the two versions of the game? Is H2H not compatible with earlier scenarios? I'd be particularly narky if I couldn't continue with my Mega Campaigns. I have all three now.

I thought it was Head to Head too.

Thanks again,
CHRIS

Kokoda: H2H is only compatible with scenarios designe for it (H2H), the first 120 that come with the download are for H2H, the remainder with a few exceptions which are noted in the game index are just left over from an earlier version of SPwaw and won't play correctly in H2H. There are more H2H downloads in other sites that can be added. I have played most of the H2H scenarios against the AI and they play great. I also have, and use, the ver 7.1 for MCs and non-H2H Scenarios and camps. Each version has different OOBs, thus compatibility problem. Why.....just...different strokes for different folks. HTH

Thanks Chief.

Does H2H also play well with C&C on? Although my regular PBEM partner doesn't play with C&C, I like the option myself.

This may all become temporarily irrelevant when CL comes out. (...soon?) I say "temporarily" because I'm sure SPWAW will live on as an icon of the genre, and will be revived from time to time as a historical retro fad. My kids are now playing and enjoying games that I played 20-25 years ago. It's strange to see them getting excited about Space Invaders, and to see their surprise that I know it and can still play it.

It's a more positive version of the saying that those who don't know their history are condemned to repeat it!

Kokoda: As for cc and H2H can't help you there, tried it, didn't like it, too old to change my ways. I play all on except CC. I believe it will work and I've seen comments on some of the scenario write ups that the units are grouped together for those who play with CC on. Others will have to comment futher on this.
