Time On Target

Hey everyone,

I'm back with another strange question.

I seem to recall, but my memory is foggy, about someone posting an excel spreadsheet to help with Time on Target calculations. Does my memory fail me on this, and if not, does anyone remember where it was posted so I can find it?

I tried using the forums search feature using the phrase "time on target" and didn't have much luck.

I've downloaded the TOT strike planner but I have some questions about using it now that I've had time to open the spreadsheets up and start to play around with them

1) what format is the location entered in, in that particular cell of the spreadsheet?

2) I am not seeing a location for the desired target of the spreadsheet either, now maybe I am just overlooking it.

3) cruise missiles - how do you enter waypoints and speed when calculating those into the planner. I know you can plot waypoints in CMO for the launch of those, but how do you know what that data is to enter into the planner?

This might be a conversation best done in PM??? or maybe doing so on this thread so others can learn from my own um....experiences, might be the best way.

I appreciate any answers and help that you can provide as I try and take advantage of this tool

Unfortunately, I have to admit my ignorance here. I captured these spreadsheets when they were put on the forum but have never actually tinkered with them myself. I had intended to do so but other things kept bumping them down on my list of things to do.

So, all I can recommend is for you to do as I would have - play around with them and see what results you achieve. You can also modify things as you see fit to see how/what happens. As this is a public discussion perhaps another forum member can provide details on using the spread sheets.

I appreciate the candor and hopefully someone will be scrolling past this particular post and maybe can help resolve some of the questions, if not, I guess I'll just play around and see what I can come up with.

I made that TOT planner. To answer your questions (a bite late):

1) A/C or Group location has no format. It is a free text-field, just as a reminder of where that group of A/C is located

2) The location of the target is determined by the length of the flight plan. A recon mission after the strike could determine if there was indeed a target there and assess the amount of damage done, just as in real life?

3) when I started on the planner, cruise missiles could not fly a complicated flight plan. They could only fly in a straight line to their target.
However, it doesn't matter they can now: as their speed is constant, just enter the total length of their flight plan. If they zigzag from waypoint to waypoint for 50nm or fly 50nm in a straight line, the time it takes them to fly that 50nm is the same. Therefore, if you enter the total length of their flight plan, ToT isn't affected.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure that this information will help me figure out the best way to utilize the TOT planner, I'll just have to play with it to get things figured out.
