SITREP Pearl

Post by Andy Mac »

OK Turn 2 his forces are split with KB to SE and BB's to North

I think he has his Oilers with KB to South if so he cannnot really sprint and I have a lot of Subs sortieing this turn

He also has to cover the landings at lahaina (or bug out)

So I have ordered Lex to move at Flank Speed to a position NW of Pearl when I want to join up with Enterprise allwing me to send one of the Carrier Groups Escorts to bolster the defence of Pearl

All non essential Sqns have been disbanded to preserve supply for the siege to come

In Pearl in addition to 5 sunk BB's 3 are at 80+ float and all my cruisers bar Mineapolis and the en route Indianapolis TF are out of commission but my 4 Gearing Class DD's are intact

The AF is out of commission for anything but CAP missions this turn but will be back up and running tomorrow.

So the plan is to move Both Carrier TF's NW of Pearl and eventually link with the on rushing Saratoga and all the DD's and Subs being sent this way from West Coast

Operational Subs from manila are also heading to Pearl

I have created 5 x DD 1 DMS 1 DM 2 PT Boat and 1 CA led SCTF's and 3 x ASW TF's if they can float they can fight also all support and non combat ships are fleeing this turn to West Coast some should escape

4 of my DD's are led by a Gearing with Radar and the best Captains I have and I am going in all directions around pearl on Max react.

My Catalina have been put on Naval Strike as they are the only ones that will fly today and my Seagulls are on a mix of night naval search

I think he has made a tactical error in launching his Pearl attack from the SE it has split his forces and with my carriers in the area he cannot really split KB (but he should) as he needs to be North of Pearl to cover the battlewagons and SE to cover what I think are his oilers but I doubt he has the screening elements to protect KB until he links up with the BB's

I am going to try and exploit that this turn

I have used waypoints to try and route Big E round the BB's I dont want to get into a fight with them because halsey may not run fast enough if he does so waypoints at flank speed with all the cruiser Seagulls set to night search I really want to avoid his BB's if I can

he loss of the AKE's has got to hurt i dont get KB going SE of Pearl on turn 1 unless i roll over and go turtle it leaves him very exposed and where are all the IJN CVL's I assume he upgraded them

I get landing in PI if you are going to land in hawaii on turn 3 or 4 as a diversion but again not sure I get it if you are doing a turn 1 landing in Hawaii surely better to bypass and hit Malaya in strength and I dont see the point in diverting resources to Rabaul on turn 1 its not like I am going to fight for it later its too easy to cut off.

Turn 1 was a masterpiece in set piece destruction but unless I roll over and go full turtle I think I can cause him some real issues

I will probably move Lexington and Enterprise North for the next few days he has to have follow on Invasion TF's en route and KB is miles out of position he will have to move KB north to protect his follow on invasion TF's and probably pull his heavies back to Truk to rearm and in that window I will repair a few damaged DD's and bring out 20 odd from West Coast and use Saratoga to ferry in air sqns

I can make him pull away from Hawaii I think by threatening follow on slow invasion TF's

I may not be able to hold PH but I can make it a long and bloody fight

Actually the best thing he could do is give up he has destroyed the US Pacfic Fleet at low cost none of his BB's are sunk his CAG's are intact and my fleet is devastated but if he stays 70% of his naval combat power is going to be tied down by the battle of PH when he needs them in DEI - this wont be fast now that much I think turn 2 has achieved

So I guess the question is how do I give him hope that hawaii can still be taken

I will have Indomitable and Hermes with 120 Carrier Aircraft between them supporting DEI defence plus 3 Vanguard Class BB's in not too distant future thats a lot of firepower to come and his big nasty CA's and Kongos will do fine against most opponents but Vanguards and POW/Repulse if united will be a formidable battle fleet and I should have enough Martlets on Indomitable and Hermes to cover them from Betties

So he will need KB in DEI and I think if he persists with Hawaii now he might still be able to take it but its going to be slow

What size of port does he need to rearm Nagato and Yamato class BB's ??

Nagato - Level 7, level 6 with 760NS

Yamato - level 9, level 8 + 88NS, level 7 + 188NS

I know how many AKEs he has, but I am not saying.

The he is toast those 6 BB's must be out of ammo which means heading back to Truk

KB has a few Kongos and CA's but not enough to get through what I have left at Pearl and even if he does to what end cannot bombard with Kongos not PH not and be decisive

All he has is KB his pilots and aircraft are still intact but in a month I will have 4 US CV's in theatre and Warspite and Pennsylvania to lead TF's at Pearl

I lost every battle yesterday except the last one and it cost me a couple of CA's and a load of DD's so I am hurting no question BUT he cannot suppress PH with Carrier Air in the long term and even when he takes Lahaina I can close it with Bombardment TF's

If he has more AKE's close to hand maybe he can keep going but I think he has to give up take the win of his devastating turn 1 and turn around and go walk over the DEI

It all comes down to the decision to send KB SE of Pearl

I dont get it ?? Whats the upside of that position it leaves his Northern forces exposed because KB's screen is not that strong and he cannot risk going North close to PH because of the DD TF's he knows are coming unless he waypoint sprints but if he does that he leaves his AO's exposed because I assume they are south west in the same hex as KB

2 must protect TF's the AKE's North of Pearl and the AO's south of Pearl and he cannot be in 2 places at the same time so he cannot afford to sprint with KB whilst my Carriers are active

I pulled the same move v another opponent who kept KB NW of Pearl and he chased down and killed lady Lex on turn 3 because he kept KB between the AO's and AKE's and my carriers

Now to be fair had that Sub sank Enterprise I might be saying different things now so I had a fair amount of luck yesterday

Very nicely done Andy. I concur you have very likely eliminated his rearmament options here which should be critical for the defense of Hawaii.

My guess is that the KB sailed southeast in the belief that your ships will attempt to flee from Pearl in that direction.

Ah ok the problem is he has now effectively tied my Carriers to the defence of Pearl

I think if I was him I would take the forces at Pearl now and sweep through Centpac and Sopac

Any follow on forces on slow TFs divert to PI and DEI and use the force already at Pearl to take Christmas Island Fiji New Cal and NZ

I have to honour the threat at Pearl and reinforce and ok he eventually loses the Div he has landed at Lahaina but it will be a pain for me to get rid of it and assuming he took extra PPs he can replace it in the line pretty quickly

Basically I would give up on Pearl unless he has more AKEs en route maybe leave 3 Carriers in Hawaiian waters to keep me honest and use the rest of KB to crucify SOPACnand Centpac

Between the Subs maybe a zero sqn on Lahaina to keep my fighters suppressed he doesn’t need much to tie me down in Hawaii freeing him up everywhere else

RE: CARNAGE OFF PEARL

I was really excited by this game and still am but we have managed 4 turns in 30 days the pace is killing me I am a player who thinks 1 turn a day is slow pace this is pure murder ;)

Its so hard (and i am not always succeeding) to avoid bugging my opponent daily - I have never had a game this slow before I am normally sitting at my PC hitting the refresh button a lot.

My other 2 games are steady 5 turns a week games so thats something.

I know of old that 3 games at one time is my limit but thats when all 3 are at decent pace this slow pace really really bugs me - I am trying not to let my opponent know how much because that wouldnt be fair but I hate it !! :) :)

I never post on the forum unless all my turns are clear and I try to never keep my opponents waiting on a turn so I am like an addict not getting his fix at present :) :)

Don't I know the feeling [:D]

I think my absolute limit is two games, I don't know how you can do three, especially all of them as allies!

How do you think your modern radar equipped Gearing's and Tribal's preformed? I have been wondering if the more heavily armored Fletcher's might be better with the Asiatic Fleet since they may be more survivable.
