A bit OT: does anyone here follow the wonderful comedy series "Ted Lasso" on AppleTV?

I became aware of it after it won a ton of Emmys this year. It is the story of the title character, Ted Lasso, that is bought from an obscure American football league in the USA to coach the fictional London team of Richmond - with zero experience about soccer, soccer culture and England in general (the reason for such a lunatic appointment is in the story, so I won't spoil). He, however, has three weapons: he is a pathological optimist, he never lies, and he does seem to have learned coaching from pop culture quotes.

Anyway, I checked it out and I was addicted. The writing is great, with the humour being a mix between the classic deadpan English and the more straightforward American one. The whole cast of characters is great. Word jokes and pop culture references fly at machinegun speed. Some of them are very funny because they are painfully not funny at all, if you get my gist. The story and the character are always fresh, due to a lot of unexpected twists and discoveries. The show can also be very emotional without being cheesy.

I think that if you are immersed in the British football culture you will get even more jokes.

I binge watched the first season and I immediately started the second. The first two episodes are good but the plot finds his footing on the third (this is the kind of joke you find in the show BTW [:D]) and from there never lets go. Give it a chance.

My elder little warspite recommended this. I really enjoyed it. We have almost finished season 2. Jason Sudekis’ eponymous character is immensely likeable, charming, vulnerable, sympathetic and witty. A great supporting cast too.

Only real gripe is that the language is a bit gratuitous sometimes, and the Sky segments didn’t really work. But these don’t outweigh the positives, of which there are a great many.

There was an article in the Mail yesterday that was very apt in its description of this match; a match between what may be to come and what might have been. How very true.

At least we know what will happen today. It's the same pretty much every year. Spurs play a team that have yet to record a win in the PL this season.... so only one winner here. Move along Spurs fans, nothing to see [:(]

....but Eric Dier did his best to try and ensure it was.... and after the embarrassment that was Thursday (did we really actually buy LoCelso? Surely he was given away as a freebie?) we now have West Ham's cup final on Sunday....the one match of the season West Ham always turn up for.

I don't think its really a question. Some things - like the West Ham result for example - are simply inevitable. I didn't see the Burnley game but I heard the reports. How can a team create so little - it's unfathomable.

I think after Saturday Ole will be behind the wheel for a while longer (courtesy of the TH Charity Club). Too bad for him he can't play Spurs every week.....

Carli Anne Hollins (née Lloyd; born July 16, 1982) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder or forward for NJ/NY Gotham FC in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Italy - Switzerland 1:1

What I can say? The two teams played equally for 70 minutes, with the Swiss deservedly scoring a very important goal (it will make the difference if we end the group with the same point score and goals scored). Then Mancini decided that it was time to play seriously and, after a dozen of changes or so, we saw the Italy that won the Euro Championship playing for twenty whole minutes. Why it was not fielded from the beginning is a mystery.

And then we had a penalty at the last minute (thanks to VAR and about fifteen minutes after the foul had happened). And Jorginho fired it directly on the stands. Ah, well...

Now we must win against Northern Ireland and score more goals that the Swiss, who will play against Bulgaria. The dejected Italian pundits are already describing N. Ireland as, basically, Brazil in the '70s, with Bulgaria surrendering to the Swiss and abandoning the pitch after five minutes. How far are the boasts heard after the match with England. Time will tell.

pity that Italy didn't make it directly, being utterly selfish, of the teams in the play offs they are the one side that there is no way could Scotland beat - there are plenty of others that could readily beat us depending on the day etc.

so we get a one leg semi final early in the new year, with home advantage set via the seeds and then?
