witpqs: The RN battleships and cruisers will move from Sabang to Tandjoengbalai, which is 6 hexes from Singapore. As soon as Batu Pahat is under control they will sortie against the airfields at Singapore.

Your intel says the IJN carriers and BBs are at Singapore. They can easily travel the six hexes to hit the British Fleet at Tandjoengbalai and return the same day, or just move one hex from Singers to launch aircraft at the Brits. Can the British Fleet resist that much power?
Hong Kong, not Singapore. [:)]
Well that does make a difference! [:D]

• The Bdes will pull out of Palembang to recover. One of them will move to Oosthaven in case that place can be seized outright.

• A base force is unloading at Benkoelen and will move to Praboemoelih to support operations at Palembang.

• Our smaller forces continue to move westward across Java.

• The 82nd (West African) Division is pursuing the enemy into Johore Bahru.

• Kuala Lumpur should be cleared within a few days.

• Attack at Soerabaja tomorrow.

• The fleet carriers at Makassar will move through the Java Sea to a point east of Palembang to await the arrival of the IJN carriers. I am hoping Batu Pahat capitulates tomorrow, after which our battleships will close Singapore's airfields.

Philippines

• The armored unit for Cagayan is on its way to Mindanao. We will see if enemy carriers force a delay.

• A supply convoy at Balabac is fleeing the approach of enemy carriers.

• We have moved 90 Corsairs to Cotabato to supplement the fighters already there in case a KB ventures through the Sulu Sea.

China

• Assault at Nanning tomorrow.

• Enemy cruisers are in hex (coastal) with our Bde and a trapped enemy unit just NW of Pakhoi, presumably to bombard our Bde. Aerial mining of Kiungshan was accomplished so their way home will be dangerous.

• I don't know what became of the IJN cruisers in hex just NW of Pakhoi, perhaps they were delivering supply.

• Approximately 3 days until the next attack at Saigon.

• B-29 target: Kobe Manpower, night, 5,000 ft. This will be the last B-29 strategic raid before the invasion of Daito Shoto, when the B-29's will be committed to shutting down the airfields at Naha and Nago.

No, but I have some engineers marching from 2 hexes away and even more going in to amphibiously unload along with a fleet advanced naval base force say the day after tomorrow. The base is basically 100% damaged in all respects, so it will take a few turns to get all that engineering power in place.

• Repair of all industries at Soerabaja has been enabled, instantly winning the adulation of the populace.

• Attack at Singkawang tomorrow.

• There have been a bunch of small TF's at Singapore all along, but today one is sighted as 9 ships, with these displayed: BB BB BB BB CL CL PG PG. Batu Pahat is ours, and I would like to send in some surface groups to hit Singapore's airfields. But I also don't want our battleships to be vulnerable in bombardment mode if they run into major IJN surface combat assets. We are sending in a small TF with 3x CL and 3x DD, the objective being to see if there really are any heavy ships there and shake up the riff raff.

• The USN fleet carriers operating in the DEI will be on station 4 hexes east of Palembang tomorrow.

• We will bring a bunch of construction units to Sumatra to develop bases near Palembang.

Philippines

China

• One or more enemy units are moving east out of Nanning.

• Our units at Nanning need to recover Disruption before going on the attack again.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina

• This steadfast defense was coordinated with a CAP ambush of our Thunderbirds hitting troops to the north.

• The assault will continue tomorrow at Lao Cai.

• Tomorrow a Bde will arrive in hex with the wandering Imperials near Hanoi and Haiphong, then expel them from the rail line.

• I want to get Lang Son airfields built up as fast as possible and with all the nearby distractions possible. My hope is to get B-24's in there and immediately sweep and bomb the port of Hong Kong, which recon says has well over 100 ships and search and recon show as having many destroyers.

• The various forces moving into Cam Ranh Bay are doing so by routes that will close all hex sides.

• Tomorrow the last of the additional divisions will have entered Saigon, assault the day after.

• 32 submarines will sortie from Bangkok and patrol across the South China Sea between Indochina and Borneo to imperil the IJN carriers on their return from waters near Singapore (should they continue). We just deployed another 11 subs right in the area of the IJN fleet (they arrived in a group for dispersal), and there of course are already a number of subs (approximately 23) on patrol in the South China Sea.

Just a general impression, but it looks as if your B-29s are getting better at night bombing raids - fewer straying (fragmenting the attacks) and fires building higher than before. Average squadron experience must be over 60 now?

Just a general impression, but it looks as if your B-29s are getting better at night bombing raids - fewer straying (fragmenting the attacks) and fires building higher than before. Average squadron experience must be over 60 now?
I don't know but I made a serious effort to make certain all arriving squadrons had top pilots released from long experience elsewhere, and all replacement pilots are the same. Performance in the B-24's and other groups has suffered.

Overall

• Strategic points: 11,252

• B29's reporting ready: 100

• Total B-29's on operating flight lines: 188

• No more B-29 groups will arrive until more than a month from now when the B-29B enters service. Until then we have only the 40 per month replacements of the B-29-25, and our loss rate far exceeds that.

• +/- VP today: +202

• Enemy carriers and battleships are 5 hexes east of Singapore. They are in hex with a large number of merchants and other non-warships.

• CV Ticonderoga will go to Truk for January '45 AA upgrade and miss the Daito Shoto invasion.

• One course of action I considered (over the last several turns) is sending the fleet carriers in the Marianas into the northern South China Sea to trap the IJN battle fleet and destroy it. But I think it is more timely to get into Okinawa and then get at the Home Islands with land forces and additional (shorter ranged) bomber forces. Basically, I've decided to keep focus on the main strategy and deal with the IJN battle fleet's activities with smaller USN concentrations (4 fleet carriers, 3 CVL, 2 battleships, etc.) and the RN. We might take losses which we would not otherwise take, but those must be compared with the consequences if we delay the advance on the Home Islands.

• About 5,000 enemy remain at Soerabaja. Base repairs might finish tomorrow. Then, with plenty of supply on hand, I suppose the facilities (such as the shipyard) will begin repairing. Maxing out the port size will be the build priority.

• The opposing carrier forces are 7 hexes apart. Two of our carrier pilots there became aces today as 26 Jakes on search missions were shot down.

• A larger RN CL TF will raid surface shipping at Singapore. If the IJN battle fleet puts in there then they will run into heavy units. The RN battleships and heavy cruisers will wait at Tandjoengbalai, and the RN carriers will depart Sabang and take up station 1 hex to the east. We do have a problem rearming warships in the strait.

• The USN carriers will take up station 1 hex west of Singkawang.

• The subs dispatched from Bangkok will make their turns SE and sweep across the South China Sea, crisscrossing the paths of others already on patrol.

• Kuching airfield will be raided by B-24's as a precaution.

• Enemy knowledge: The USN carriers, et al are sighted; the RN battleships and cruisers are not sighted but there location is probably understood; the RN carriers' location is not known to the Empire.

• Tomorrow Australian B-24's at Soerabaja will begin strikes on Palembang's airfields. The airfield at Soerabaja is size 4 but it's a start.

Philippines

• Additional units for the renewed assault should be in Cagayan in 2 or 3 days.

China

• The troops at Nanning are recovering well.

• In two more days we will have forces in places to begin the reduction of the trapped Bde NW of Pakhoi.

• Base building in northern Indochina continues, but with the IJN battle fleet relying on Hong Kong the time to strike is now. We have plenty of air support in place and adequate space to sweeps Hong Kong with more than the 118 fighters the defense can muster, and to strike the port with about 72 B-24 (more if some gone into maintenance after the transfer flight come ready in time).

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina

• Good results at Saigon; we cleared the rail line in the north.

1945 January 27

The IJN battle fleet is in the highlighted hex, our fleet carriers are 4 hexes east of Palembang. The route which evacuees and the IJN battle fleet plan to follow back to Hong Kong is obvious.

Near Soc Trang you can see the subs recently sortied from Bangkok. Timing looks good. Cross your fingers!

The IJN battle fleet hopes to escape with all this shark bait. Because all of these TF have a reported heading of SW it looks like these ones in hex with the battle fleet came with it from Hong Kong to pick up fuel and perhaps excess supply or even troops.

Only the barrel on that machine gun moves like that if the tripod is secure. Otherwise the tripod itself may move as well.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.
