Russia in wpp and wp2

Post by generalfdog »

I am curious if many have tried attacking Russia as Japan? I know in wpp it doesn't make alot of sense although if succesfull you do free up the Kwangtung army and gain a major port (more supply on the mainland) you also gain a victory objective and some production but in wp2 it could be a killer Axis strategy! due to the limited infrastructure, ie one rail line right on the border it is incredibly easy to cut supply to the bulk of the Russian forces and push them back in to siberia, now due to the port supply rules it is almost impossible to push them to the perfect bottleneck of Irktusk but you can push them out of anything important. So I am wondering how this will be treated in wp2, is it the missed opportunity by the Axis and a killer strategy? or are Russian forces a bit off and need beefed up? also we don't want the Axis to always win by doing that

I don't think its a winning play for the Axis, you can't get to the Siberian resources because pushing past Irktusk is so hard.

Also the Allied player should move the starting units to the northern border with Manchuria, so Axis can't cut off all those units with such ease. Which is what I didn't do in our game...

Probably iffy in the pacific only game but what about wp2 which will be Europe also? Would it not be more then Russia could handle to have to divert resources to siberia instead of getting them?

We will have to see with WP2. I expect the situation will be similar, where Axis have to push up a single track railroad into horrible terrain.

It's countered by railing your starting far east units to the west, if you do that then the Axis have to fight far more USSR units.
