Air group command structure

Post by panzer51 »

So I see you can add Air Divisions, Air Brigades, Air Regiments. But it seems like I can only assign command to Air Corps. So I can't assign an actual structure of Regiment->Division->Corps for example. Why?

You kind of can. Think about it like this, air groups (regiments) can only be assigned to specific AOGs (divisions), i.e fighters to JGs as Axis and the same for the Soviets. AOGs can then only be assigned to air corps which in turn can only be assigned to air fleets (army).

I can only assign squadrons to regiments and then regiments to corps. I cannot assign regiment to division. Seems like only two level structure is implemented.

Can you give an example? I can attach s uniy to any level as long as the AOG is available.

Ok I'm redoing Romanian airforce. I created 71 and 72 escadrila (squadron), add them to 1st Bomb group (regiment). But when I try to add them to 1 Bomb Flotilla (division) it doesn't do anything. I can only add 1st Bomb group directly to GAL (corps). So if you say that it's possible to create a multilevel structure then maybe I'm an idiot. But I noticed that for example 53 KG reports directly to the corps, so i wonder if the German structure was coded in.

Yes, the way the system works is that there are Air Commands, Corps, and then "low level AOGs" (division/brigade/regiment). You can't assign a low level AOG to another low level AOG, IIRC. Note that the Axis Allied "brigades" AOGs are actually given Corps status so they can have low level AOGs attach to them. That's what you would need to do in your case. So really only 3 levels of AOGs are allowed.

Thanks Joel, so that's what I suspected, a two-tier low level command structure. I will basically have to remove the regiments.

I have been busy reading the WITW air war automated and manual docs page by page.

Yes, WITW seems quite a bit more granular. On the other hand WITE-2, seems to allow with AOGs the more logical grouping of planes into workable units. So, you are going to have recon, CAS, Mod Bmrs, Transport/Recon, and fighters.

In WITW, the game had to figure out where you were going and how if you wanted to use AI-basing. In WITE-2, the option of an air army or army (group) mean just stay close to the senior command if done by the AI. If done manually, than it is more multi-select and drag along the new bases.

So, WITW more control, but WITE-2 more sensible structure and features.

I've played flight sims with air campaigns and WITW easily is as complex as any flight sim, I played.
