New one...for me

Post by jcax101 »

Hi,

In my RHS game, I had a US DD involved in a collision, and it has damage of 3-3-94. The DD is in a TF with 5 other DDs and 2 CL. The TF did not move after the turn cycled. Now that I'm looking at the TF screen it says Moves m/c (1,0). The damaged DD says max speed 3 (0) and cruise 1 (0). I don't remember the TF screen saying 1,0 last turn, but maybe it did. It's still a surface combat TF, and I set the destination away from the enemy airbase. CAP is set over the TF. There were no surface threats for it to retreat from during the last turn.

My question is, I thought regardless of speed or damage, a ship would move at least 1 hex per phase. In the case of heavily damaged ships (like this DD) it would simulate towing. Admittedly in over a decade of gaming I have never had a ship in this situation, and my memory of forum comments could be mistaken.

Any clarity would be appreciated.

I do see ships move 1 hex per day when badly enough damaged. At 2 phases per day, I guess they move 0 in one of the phases.

Ditto, IME.

Ships always move 1 hex minimum when at sea, no matter the damage.

This is abstraction for being towed.

Yes, his issue was whether it is one hex per phase (day/night) or one hex per day. The members responding agree that sometimes it can be only one hex per day.

I thought it has always been one hex per day, not one hex per phase.

Isn't this the same formula for ships that run out of fuel?

In this case it depends on the speed the ship can make. The engineering damage brought its speed down to 3 knots - enough to make one hex but not quite two in 24 hours. Had it been 4 knots, the ship would do one hex per phase because 4*12=48 NM.

The ship is not under tow in this case, the crew is just rowing hard. [:'(]
