Iwo Jima

Iwo Jima is an active volcanic island and over the past decades this activity has raised parts of the island by approximately 50 feet. Uplift has exposed a number of ships which were sunk as a breakwater for a port supplying the marine invasion force. Article can be found at:

Interesting article. Apparently these are concrete barges used by Seabees to try to build an artificial harbor, but they didn't finish the job.
