Italy Mobilization?

Post by redrum68 »

What causes Italy's mobilization to increase? I just had Italy declare war in Feb 1940 which seems very early as most games it tends to happen around May/June. I don't believe I missed any of the Med garrisons or broke the Allied naval units in the Med restrictions.

The things I'm aware of that can increase Italy's mobilization are:
- Countries that surrender to Axis
- Belgium surrendering to Axis
- Missing Med garrisons
- Too many naval/amphib units in Med
- Axis units within 1 hex of Paris

What am I missing?

Never mind. I found the answer to my own question :)

The increased mobilization is due to Belgium surrendering which increases Italy mobilization 3-5% EVERY TURN. So essentially this gives Germany even more reason to declare war on Belgium in 1939 than they already had.

Any chance the following event could be changed to only fire once rather than every turn?

; Fall of Brussels resulting in a 3-5% increase
; in Italian mobilization towards Axis
{
#NAME= Collapse of Belgium (Italy->Axis)
#POPUP=
#IMAGE=
#SOUND=
#FLAG= 1
#TYPE= 2
#AI= 0
#GV= 1[1,100]
#LINK= 0[0]
#LEVEL= 0
#COUNTRY_ID= 59
#TRIGGER= 75
#DATE= 1940/01/01
; 3-5% mobilization increase towards Axis
#MOBILIZATION= [3,5] [1]
; Set variable conditions:
; 1st Line - Germany politically aligned with Axis and not surrendered
; 2nd Line - Belgium politically aligned with Allies and surrendered
#VARIABLE_CONDITION= 45 [1] [100] [0]
#VARIABLE_CONDITION= 10 [2] [100] [1]
;Dummy condition position (always satisfied)
#CONDITION_POSITION= 0,0 [0,0] [0,0] [0] [0]
}

This script doesn't kick in until 1940, and we could potentially make it a slightly later date in 1940 rather than from the start of the year.

Yeah, I think adjusting the date to like the start of Spring would be much better. I'd argue overall that Italy didn't care that much about the surrender of Belgium, what they cared about was when Germany made significant progress into France as they wanted to join the war before France surrendered. Historically, Italy declared war once the French government fled Paris and declared it an open city.

Yes, this would be a very easy change and might help address the issue we're discussing in the other thread.
