Upgrading ground units and air wings

Hi everyone! I am still struggling a bit in understanding why there seems to be a difference between refitting ground units vs air ones:

I did mess around with the pool of equipment and, for ground units, it makes sense that when they are either in the reserve TB or on a depot, they start swapping their equipment for the new one (even if it's not yet in production). Why the same does not happen, even if I send an air wing to the reserve? If I artificially add (i.e.) Bf-109 G2, shouldn't my air wings swap their F2 for the new model during the logistics phase? If this behaviour occurr for ground units, what makes it so different for air wings? I did look at the manual but I could not find an answer.

Have you set the air unit upgrade to automatic instead of manual?

Yes I did. And even if I want to manually upgrade my air wings (i.e., equipped with 109 F-2), I only see the used model in the pool (i.e.: 54 109 F-2) but not the G-2. Is this WAD?

No it's not. But my Stug IV and Panzer IV F2 are not available either (in 1941), yet they slowly get incorporated into my panzer divisions and StuG detachments as soon as I add them in the pool, in all my tests. The same however does not happen for my air wings.

Ok I found the solution to my issue: it seems WAD (in agreement with what stated in the manual, page 185: An aircraft model has to be in production for at least 1 month before it can be used to upgrade an air group unit).

To prove/disprove this I:
- changed the 1st year of the Ju 88S from 1944 to 1941 in the generic data files and kept the original ac.dat file in a separate folder to restore the correct values.
- added 80 Ju 88S and 80 Panzer IV F2 in the pool of Germany.
- launched a new 1941 GC, set the 19. Panzer-Division on refit, the II./KG 77 to the AR TB and let the first turn pass for both players.

Now:
- when using the original ac.dat file, no Ju 88S went to upgrade the Ju 88 of II./KG 77 and 28 Panzer IV F2 were incorporated in the 19. Panzer-Division;
- when using my altered Ju 88S first production year, the II./KG 77 was equipped at full strength with 30 Ju 88S and 29 Panzer IV F2 went in the 19. Panzer-Division TOE.

Conclusion: aircrafts and AFV are treated separately during the logistics phase, with the former being delivered to the air wings only 1 month upon being produced.
