How combat works in detail? "i" in Hitpoints?

In this screen it looks like there is an "i" letter at the second defense value. What does it mean?

Hi briklebritt,

You appear to be playing a modded version of the game.

There is no 81mm mortar in the standard game so it's hard to say whats going on with the mod you are using.

The UI element in your shot above is non standard (should be grey, the brown indicates Soviet in other UI elements) yet the pic is showing Germans. The Soviets didn't have an 81mm mortar in WW2 (off the top of my head) so I'm guessing it's German but they've mixed up the UI as well as the numbers.
