Any way to stop AI from cheat moving?

Post by Hrulj »

Been playing for a week or so and I'm getting quite tired of AI just plain cheating in regards to move attacking and shuffling units around. It's literally impossible to defend anything due to it. What happens is as follows. AI attacks. Replaces the unit. Attacks. Unit moves away. Another comes in, attacks, then is shuffled out trough shift and attacks again. That is on top of any side attacks it performs on the front. Dig in. Fortress. Mountains. Doesn't matter, AI just bull rushes past using this. Is there a mod that ties AI movement to be the same as players?

It isn't a cheat, it's using the shift click switcheroo to swap the units. Necessary given the lack of stacking in the game. Before this mechanic was introduced fronts tended to be quite a bit more static.

You can use it yourself by holding down the Shift key while highlighting one of the units you want to swap, then click on its partner.

I am aware of that but the problem is if I move a unit I can't shift it into a swap with another. AI is moving positions, attacking, then swaping with another unit that moved etc. I turned off fog of war so I see them do it.

You can. But not if you use up all of the units movement points...

Hi Hrulj

I'd just like to confirm that the AI follows the same rules as players and it will only be able to do this if the unit hasn't used up all its Action Points.

The AI uses the same movement rules the player does.

However this isn't the whole story. There's a way to save movement points in all SC games when you move and attack. If you move and then click somewhere else, and then select that same unit and then attack, you lose 1 movement point when attacking (just as when you attack without moving at all). But if you move and then click attack on an enemy unit before doing anything else, the attack is "free" (costs no movement points). In some situations this may lead to you being able to cram in more attacking units against a single defender.

I believe this wasn't originally intended but the developers have chosen to keep it in the game.

Correct, just the attack will not cost you an extra action point in this case and the relevant discussion on this can be found here:
