How to Counter Maritime Bombers?

Post by redrum68 »

Maritime bombers seem to do pretty high damage to just about any ship (surface or sub), have a very long range, and only cost 150 MPs. They seem incredibly strong for a pretty low cost compared to just about anything else. Seems the only limitation that keeps them from being completely game breaking is they have a low build limit. Any tips on how to counter or deal with these? Should they be more expensive?

Fighters, land or carrier-based. I've seen my maritime bombers working at long range mauled more than once by fighters lurking out there that I didn't know about.

Maritime Bombers are pretty weak to attacks by aircraft whether by interception or air-ground attack. The only time I could imagine they would be game breaking is if 'soft builds' was used and someone churned them out. I tested this in a WiE hot-seat test a few years back and yes it was a bit much haha.

Anyway..that's why soft builds are toggled off in MP PBEM matches...and a gazillion cheap Maritime Bombers on the board is one of the reasons why. [:D]

Also, maritime bombers are susceptible to anti-air. Boost your ships to level 2 anti-air and you will cut your losses and pound the attacking bombers.

Fighters take a good nick out of MBs. Also be careful where you move ships if out of fighter coverage.

Build up the long range research to maximum, especially Japanese and U.S. I usually have the Japanese at level 4 by Dec 41. Build extra fighters; a fighter with range 5 can provide a lot of air cover. If your opponent has maritime on different islands in the Pacific, have your maritime recon islands in advance, spot the enemy maritime and swoop in with CV/CVL's to bomb it into history from extreme range (so you can retreat your ships back after striking. Have 1 or 2 AVL ground units standing by to finish it off if necessary and take the island/port. Usually 2 CV's with an AVL unit are enough to kill a maritime. They may be cheap, but it takes time to buy them back.

Good strategy. An extra fighter is a good idea in general in Pacific.
