The Mirror Game: K62 vs Gary

Post by K62_ »

We're playing with the same rules as the first time. Only now we have agreed to only fire 1 smoke round after running out of shots.

The map is quite similar too: a big continuous forest in the north and smaller patches in the south. First turn opens with no contact but a huge Russian arty barrage (including Katyushas  ) on a forested hill in the north.

Second turn: a Soviet MC squad goes a long way on a road going to the German backyard. For a while they don't meet anyone, but they are eventually stopped in their tracks by a StuG. A Puma swiftly moves to dispatch them. German arty pops smoke in the south to mask potential Soviet AT positions.

He means that after a unit has used all of its shots from its main gun, it can only fire one smoke round. This does not stop a unit from firing six smoke rounds in one turn, but that unit would not be able to do any attacking that turn because it used all of its attacks to fire smoke.

We have made first contact in the middle, running into German Calvery?, Puma's and Stugs. Have pushed them back a little but I think there will some retaliation. Not a lot of room to move on this map, too bad there just wasn't more menuverability, but such is life.

Fight fans, this one is going to be over really quickly! Gary's OOB is very similar to the one I used in the previous game: cavalry, engineers on HTs, SU122, BT7. Mine is also based on fast units. There's a big melee going on in the north woods, both sides had heavy casualties and more are to come.

We have heavy contact in the middle woods with pumas, stugs, calvery, motorcycles and a lot of recon units. They did not cover there flanks so it looks like we might be able to pull off a double envelopment. Depends on if there attack stalls out or not.

In the south we ran into another smaller group of Stug's and calvery we have pushed them back but we see many more calvery units in the back ground. The next few minute will decide the battle.

Herr Colonel,

the enemy appears to be in great force in the north woods. He has practically annihilated our northern flank Image What shall we do?

Well first don't panic. Second commit all the reserves to the south, where we still have a chance.

Due to the size of the engagment and the speed of the units the enemy was able to hit our southern flank very hard and we have lost contact with them. We think that the northern flank is done for but are not sure. We have pulled back to regroup.

So far we each bloodied the other's nose on one flank. Here's a statistic of vehicle losses (bean counters, unite! Image):

North:
German: 5 heavy ACs, 1 SP mortar Total value approx 350
Soviet: 4 SU122, 1 Bt7, 5 HTs ~500

South:
German: 2 StuGIIIG, 2 Puma, 1 SP mortar ~400
Soviet: 6 SU122, 4 BT7 ~600

Total: ~750 vs ~1100

German units actually cost more because of higher experience so they are actually worth about 900-1000. Infantry losses are not included and they might alter the balance somewhat.

But all in all I would say neither side has gained a significant advantage despite very heavy fighting. Hang around for round 2 Image

This battle is like two large heavy weight boxers who are tired after round 8 and are just standing toe to toe with each other. Sluging it out. Not a lot of skill but sure is a lot of death. We shall see very soon who lands the last punch, either way they have both done so much damage to each other it will probably end up in a draw.

I agree with Gary's comments. He'll probably get more points though. To make matters worse, we each outflanked the other, so the retreating units go straight into the enemy's line :D

Circle each other there shots get weeker and weeker and their streangth gets smaller and smaller, only turn 8. Game will be over in the next two turns either way I beleive.
