Pilot training and supply

Post by geofflambert »

Stock. 8/45. Supply becoming a serious issue.

Supply in the Empire has been declining gradually for the past couple of years but it seems to be accelerating. I haven't lost a significant amount of production so far in the war. I have no shortages of fuel or resources. At the present time naval and merchant production is almost turned off and there's very little in the pipeline. Air production is largely idle as I haven't lost a lot of planes, production on Ki-83s and Sams is maxed out but not much else is going on. Engine factories are at max though I could possibly feather some of that down a tad. Armaments factories have been idle for months but vehicle factories are all on. Combat lately is fairly tepid and I'm not losing a significant amount of supply to bombing. I suppose the size of my forces is the main drag and I have replacements and upgrades turned on for all units. I've turned off base and fortification enlargement almost everywhere. There is no repair going on anywhere of factories, resources, oil or refineries.

One thing I wonder about is all the bleeping training squadrons I've gotten this year, and I have been drawing forward recruits into them. What they're doing is great but I'm not sure I need it. Could that process be drawing a lot of supply and what should I do? Disband all or most of them?

Here's some snapshots from the past year.

I don't know about pilots in the training schools, but flying aircraft for whatever purpose uses supply. Can't you make some origami airplanes for the pilots to learn their maneuvers with?

Replacements and upgrades of LCU devices and aircraft use supply.
From memory, for new LCU devices it’s 1 supply per load cost of each device, so thousands of supply are needed for each new Division to fill the TOE.
Maintaining all your troops also uses supply with bigger LCUs having more mouths to feed.
Flying aircraft uses supply based on the type of aircraft and mission, but my money is on your LCUs being the main culprit from what you describe.

Believe planes on training take 50% of supplies as if flying active missions.

You can stand down eg. the 2 + 4E planes but still keep the 1E training, supply is measured on engine numbers. Certainly a part of this may be the culprit , but also guess the land units are to blame when you are in 45 already the IJ has gotten a lot but mostly crap or average units.

I have no proof for this but perhaps put units on rest and stop also replacements then they may safe supplies

I suppose I could disband most of the mostly useless FP squadrons. They aren't very efficient even as trainers.

You're confusing HI and supply here, at least it seems that way. Armaments factories consume HI, of which you have an abundance.

Now disbursements of armaments will consume supply.

Yup disband a dozen of em you need lest. Plus use my advise for land units. Perhaps also disband some land units you can live without? Then track the situation for 10 turns.

You can also try tracker it may help to identify issues..

Contrary to you I just bought back 5-6 float plane units from sunken ships. I am bit short on nav pilots but I "swim" in supply (9/43). The air unit arrivals are still quite rare for the IJN..also the recon ones had to be withdraw recently a bit of a "bummer" [:o]

Pilot training also consumes HI.

There was a thread recently (I.E. in the last 2 years or so) about turning HI off in India & Australia. I can't find it ATM, but IIRC we are talking about the "off-map" pilot training.

Perhaps someone has a link.

Out of curiosity I looked around for LCUs to disband and I couldn't find any where the "disband unit" command wasn't grayed out.

Also, I've used Tracker before and swear by it but for whatever reason when I began this PBEM I couldn't get it to work and just gave up on it. If I start another I'll definitely try and get it working.

You disband Jap units by banzaing them into the Americans. They want to die for the emperor. Return to civilian life is not an (disband) option.

You can only disband units at the Home Base if it is possible to do so.

I can disband units in Tokio and as Allies I believe SF (I never bothered to disband as Allied player so not sure as they have too much stuff anyways from 43 on at least [;)])

Not sure if restricted units can be disbanded, try it out - track your supplies and report back to help others too w/ the info, thx.[:)]

Sydney and Dehli as well for the Allies. I think Vancouver for the Canadians as well.

I don't think that restricted units can be disbanded.

Units that are due to be withdrawn can't be disbanded either.

You’ve set devices to not upgrade, but units have to be in rest mode for their TOE to upgrade.
Setting them to rest triggered TOE upgrades, but with replacements off those new TOE won’t fill with extra or upgraded devices.
You definitely want the radars that are in those AA Regt upgraded TOEs.

Some AA might even upgrade to 12cm! This should not be missed. Radar is very important too. Seems supply is bit more now...

Is this game a PBM btw? And what scen? In scen2 you should be better off w/ supply

It's stock and a PBEM. I forget which scenario, the one before the attack. I didn't even hit Pearl.

So, I'll be systematically getting all the AA upgraded. No problem, it's not busy at the moment.

In scenario 1 the JAAF Base Forces get radar if you leave device upgrades for them on, but the JAAF AF Bns don’t.
IJNAF Base Forces and JNAFUs all get radars as device upgrades, so check them out too.
