I am just starting a game with this variant rule against Nomad - we picked 100 points and had our choices done in 2 days -- I was the slow poke as I had never done this before and as Japan there are a lot of interesting choices... Problem for a lot of the 'extra' choices is that Japan has to build them all (whereas the Allies do not) so you have to be careful. As for adding tons of oil, you can only add 1 50 point oil source max... And its expensive - 5 points (one of the most expensive picks on the list).

I like the idea as you can take what your side offers and adjust for your play style and known weaknesses... If you always lose a couple CVs to be being too aggressive, well then you can add a couple more into the queue and so forth. I picked several choices to offset my known game weaknesses - and several just because they seem to great to pass up... only time will tell with those.

I am considering running an AAR opposite Nomad but haven't decided yet. AARs are always interesting in the beginning but often peter out after a few months.

Xargun
Xargun has a good point on ship building , i believe putting ships in a task force doesnt count towards shipyard requirement for Japan. I believe this is a good solution;
1) Doesnt put strain on Japanese economy
2) Japanese player cant accelerate ships bought with points , would be more balanced

This idea crossed my mind when I was doing yours and deaniks changes.

The current variant list allows for acceleration of devices and increasing experience in ships see previous page

What about adding in some training groups on the map? you can spend points on filling them out with old equipment or they are spawned in with no equipment that need's to be filled up? but they start on map so they should cost around what the normal group's cost for the time period?

While the nasty AI of Andy Mac in Insanity game keeps me on my toes in mid-42, I was thinking that the Allies could get what Brain B did in his mod and have the American 4e heavy bombers steadily get power turrets like the B-24s do with each version. The stats remain the same, but their effectiveness doubles for each 'power turret' that is added.
Lowering the SR on a particular airframe by one. I would like my P-38s to have more availability in 42/43 from this rather than resting so much.
For ground changes, how about increasing Aviation Support for select BFs and/or Air HQs? Maybe add in an upgrade in 1/43 that increases that number. Could be option for both sides.

G'day All,

Was wondering if instead of (A14 .. Add 50 PBY-5 to pool= 2 points), would (A14 .. Add 25 PBY-5 and 25 F4F-4's to pool= 2 points) be ,allowed? And if yes, your balance could be what ever you want(30/20 or 35/15 or what ever). Just a thought.

Great Work!
thanks

Actually, since this is really an agreement between two players, any changes and/or additions to the variants list is fine. If both agree then go with it.
Both games I made changes on did this, there were agreements on various items made.

Basically, think of it as agreements on house rules. There are a lot of house rules about, this is just something a bit different.

I've always liked points customization systems like this. They're solid.

I see a lot of no-brainers in this list for me :p

For the same number of points, you could get more convoys coming in with aircraft.

Idea 1:

Japanese High Command noted the effectiveness of the Allied 40mm AA guns throughout the war...and decided they need to accelerate the adoption of their own 40mm AA gun.

The 40mm T05AA gun, normally slated to arrive in 9/45 has been accelerated by throwing men and material into its program.

Have two purchase points:

1. Activation is now Jan 1945
2. Activation is now April 1944

Idea 2

Japan accelerates the development of aerial radars:

Accelerate all aerial radars by six months.

love this idea

So just to ask the variants "for idiots" question: I'm assuming that changes for both sides would be made in the editor by one player, then saved as a new scenario, then validated for accuracy by the opponent?

Ask someone to do the changes for each side so neither one knows the other sides choices. You may be surprised but someone just may do that for you and your opponent.

Soooo........two or three weeks of negotiations as a lead up to cementing what game two players are actually going to start?

Man, it really makes me glad I play solitaire.

OT edited.

Here on topic reply the Allied xAK to xAP conversions should be looked into as someone suggested above. In game (stock) there personal capacity is way to high PLUS in realizy even w/ the lower more correct capacity these ships were not fit to carry many soldiers over long distances only shorter trips. IIRC 900 men is the correct value in game it is 2000(!) writing from memory here. Also thay could not be used in a first wave assault on defended beaches (2nd wave and undefended yes)...I mean liberty ships mostly here.
