Naval War Mod - Icons Not The Same

Post by stryc »

I'm new to this and I'm using the Naval War mod with the included modified icon set, so I'm not fully aware of how this all hangs together yet, but why are the French fleets using a different icon set to everyone else?

Yes, it’s a known issue. I think it has generally been overlooked by the modder. Hopefully, he’ll correct it.

Just to be clear, this is included with the base game and it's not correct?

Hi Styrc,

The Naval Mod is part of a grouping of player implemented graphic and campaign modifications that have been put together as a 'Community Pack' that now ships with the game just to make it easier for players to have access to the more popular community developed mods that are out there.

As the developer/publisher, we can't guarantee the quality or accuracy of any of the mods, but we are happy to include them in with the game as they are quite nice and have seemingly had a lot of individual effort put into them.

Hopefully that clarifies it?

It is of course right and proper to be appreciative of the folks that have created quality mods for your game, and to ship a small selection of those mods in the base game should be an implicit sign of quality; therefore, would it not feel a tad slap-dash to then discover that an included mod has a not insignificant problem that's clearly noticeable from the very first moments in the game?

I can certainly see where you are coming from for sure here, however that being said I honestly had no idea there were any lingering issues and this is the first I'm hearing of this particular one.

Unfortunately we don't keep track of mod work or even test them extensively. Mods can be quite detailed, complex and have entirely different arrangements from the default game, and we are a small team here, just Bill and I.

What we do is guarantee our work and stand by it, as you can see from our engagement and continual patches. The Community Pack was just a service we provided where we curated the most popular mods and included them with the game.

That being said, for the mods, your best bet is to contact the mod author, I believe he is still active in the MODS forums, and from memory I do believe we've updated the mod at least once in the Community Pack. If there is another update to be had, Hairhog will likely contact us and we are then very happy to provide any updates as needed to the Community Pack.

Outside of that, if the feeling is that some of the mods are not up to par, and there is a consensus on this, we could always remove them from the Community Pack as well if that is felt to be the better solution. Preferably we'd not want to do that, as usually the issues are minor and modders generally don't have their full time focus applied to the mods in the same way we do to our games, but if that makes things easier that is always an option as well.

I don't think whining about a mod is useful. It's optional so just don't play it. The Naval Mod is decent and enjoyed by many players.

Yeah..modding is a hobby..not a business. There's a lot of work and love but into these projects. The best thing to do is contact the mod developer (an easy thing to do usually via a PM) to address issues like this. Actually..its a bit of 'slap-dash' to harangue the developers of this wonderful game...at least in my opinion.
Just go to the appropriate mod thread and point out any flaws or other issues found or perceived to be found.
