Mountain gun trick
Allies have a few small mountain gun regiments in India.
However, arty tubes are pricey in terms of PP. Each regiment costs 96 PPs to change to unrestricted command if you want to ship them out of India or cross borders overland. Three such regts will cost you 288 PPs total.
You can:
-find the BF in Myitkina . Change its HQ to Indian Command (R) for 27 PPs. Now you can assign Myitkina istelf to Indian Command (R) for 20 PPs. Now change mountain guns regts to Indian Command (R) for 24 PPs each. Move the regiments to Ledo. The regiments are completely air mobile. Fly them from Ledo to Myitkina.
For the price of 119 PPs the regiments are now in Burma.

Change a HQ to the Indian command. Transfer units from the India command to that HQ . . .

Sounds gamey to me. Isn't this the same as the Japanese buying out the restricted 2nd Air HQ making all air units assigned to it unrestricted? The not gamey way is to require all 2nd Air HQ air units be bought out individually. Same with 1st (or 51st) Air HQ, also restricted.

My take as well.

RE: Mountain gun trick
Just buy the guns out and then they can go all over the map instead of just going to one more base in Burma!

Myitkyna may have been converted to India command, but you are still taking Restricted units across a national border.ORIGINAL: Yaab

Yes, the PP/National Border houserule, which is the most common HR in use, prevents this move, and it should not be done
Just pay the 96pp, by the time those units are trained-up the Allies can afford it

I would welcome any player to buy units from one restricted HQ into another. [:D]
With the hr about restricted units not allowed to cross borders in all my PBEMs it wouldn't make sense and wouldn't be allowed though.
My take on artillery has always been to buy out the last, I never had the feeling artillery is worth it's high prize.
RE: Mountain gun trick
Don't give it replacements until it is bought out. Trash it if at all possible, that is move it to where it does not have enough supplies and devices become disabled. Then it becomes cheaper.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

RE: Mountain gun trick
They lack punch so severely that they are hardly worth buying out.
That being said I buy them out every game.
Go figure.
It's the 'I need every possible unit at the front' syndrome we all fall prey to.

RE: Mountain gun trick
They are artillery and on the attack or defense you want as many gun tubes as is possible.

RE: Mountain gun trick
Damn, I have just noticed that I can administer the same, unsportsmanlike treatment to 7th Indian Division that starts in Bombay. It has no motorised support and no heavy guns at start. Everything can be airlifted. PP cost is just 58 points. The biggest bonus is almost a full compliment of combat engineers in the division to wreck Magwe/Rangoon industry.[:-]
EDIT; Changed the PP cost from 75 to 58 points.
