Can the font size be modified/increased for the various game screens or are there any mods that do so ?

In the game, under PREFS, Gfx and Resolution, you can scale things.

Yes, that will scale all the graphics together, not just the fonts - that's what I do for my "old guy eyes".
I don't recall seeing a way of scaling just text.

Right, the fonts. There is a font directory. Go to Graphic mods and look for Simple Font Enhancement thread.

One thing you can try is to copy the 'Arial' font file & rename it 'small5'.
Back up & replace the original 'small5' font file with this new one.
The font files are located in the main directory/fonts folder.
Depending on your resolution & screen size, this could help.

This and other QOL features should be worked into the game options. That would add some slick polish to the game.
