CS - Won't Run in Windows 10

How do you get CS to run in Windows 10?

It does not work for me.

When I try to run it from the "Campaign Series Game Menu" and I click on either EF/WF or Rising Sun, nothing happens. When I go down into say the WF folder and try running the executable I get an error message that is cryptic at best.

I have the game patched up to v 2.02.

Apparently I can't upload an image, something about fakepath in the Matrix software for this forum.

It's answered in the FAQ:

"The program has failed to launch" or "The application has failed to start" -- Why?


This is aka the "side-by-side" error.

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

Most likely, you don't have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package.

Make sure you get the right version for your system architecture (32 vs. 64 bit)!

The download link is dead. I have tried a search on the Micorosft page, but I find only a 2008 SP1, or a Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package. Installed both without success.

Any ideas on that?

Apologies for a late answer. The link seems to be indeed gone, and I don't have an answer to your question.

Please open a ticket with Matrix support, they are accustomed to these OS level issues.

Got the same problem. Opened viewer and it does say side-be-side error. Question is what the hell do I do to correct it as I already have C++ 2005, 2010 and 2015 installed?

Try the 2008. It doesn't hurt to have multiple versions: https://downloads.i-theses.com/index.ph ... d=9&id=104
