NTC Scenarios

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

NTC Scenarios

Post by MOS96B2P »

I've found some references in the forum about the US National Training Center (NTC). I even found an NTC map. However I have not been able to find a NTC scenario. Were any NTC scenarios created and if so where would I find them?

Also, I now have an NTC map of the Central Corridor (I think it is just a map with no scenario). Where do I place this map so I can load it in the game and have a look at it? My computer is a Windows PC and I bought the game through Steam.

If I can get this NTC map to load I may try to use the editor and create a simple NTC scenario.

I am not sure about scenarios, but looking at the third-party content may have some.
For STEAM users please use this link to get the file and other game-related goodies.

As for the maps. GO into Steam, find Red Storm on the games list in the left window, right-click it, select Manage and then select Browse Local Files. Open Modules, open FPRS, and then open Maps. Copy both the art and FP( file into the folder and the new map will show in the Scenario Editor and in-game.

Okay thanks, good information. I found one NTC scenario so far. Iron Horse 2.

I also discovered that I already had the NTC central corridor map. However when I previously loaded the map it looked so different from the other maps I've played on I thought it was not a "playable" map. It has grid squares instead of hexagons. And this NTC map is huge, 40km x 36km. Somebody invested a lot of hard work in this map. After I started Iron Horse 2 I noticed the hexagons are still present on the map for movement / positioning purposes. They're just not visible unless you click on the map. A click on the map reveals one yellow hexagon. On a positive note the maps look more like a military map. On the other hand it takes a little getting use to when your accustom to the Fulda Gap looking maps.

If your able to say, which method will Southern Storm use? Visible hexagons, or military grid lines with invisible hexagons, or something else?

Both games use hex-based movement. Game maps in the new game are terrain hex bases but have the 1km grid overlayed.

Will Southern Storm come with a full map editor? Perhaps with tiles and the option to superimpose an 'art map'? `Desert War' does that and it's pretty neat.

Governato, no full map editor. The mapping process we use is fairly complex, not tile-based, relies on third-party tools, and takes some time to learn. We will ship like Red Storm with a map values editor so you can create maps and also documentation on how to do those maps.
