Reaching The Volga–Arkhangelsk line ( Well Almost )

Post by tm1 »

This is not a true AAR as I used a saved game from turn 41 and chose a different strategy.

First game parameters.
Axis V AI Soviets 100 %level ( so you could say in theory not much of challenge )
Patch 1.07 sudden death so I had to improvise to get around the points system
Already survived the first winter making it even better odds.

Campaign background

Dec 1940 General Erich Marcks produces a study called OPERATION DRAFT EAST, which later evolves into Barbarossa.

The plan push the Soviets back to The A-A Line there by protecting Germany from any attacks predominately Soviet Air strikes.

The Campaign begins

My plan was for all 3 Army Groups to drive east encircle Leningrad,Moscow and Stalingrad destroy there defences but leave them cut off then continue East.

Victory Score turn 85

Jan 1943

I wanted to go all the way capture the remaining few objectives before turn 90 plus the encircled cities there by still achieving my goal of reaching The A-A line and getting a automatic victory as a bonus.

But the truth of the matter it was all over when 3 top cities were encircled also i did basically get a good deal starting after the first winter.

A new patch came out with a new campaign with no sudden death so i decided to ended it.

I have another challenge I want to do but I will return to The A-A Line again but it will be full event starting from turn 1 next time.

I'm surprised your logistics can hold up at such distances. Did you have any issues?

....

well your overall performance is impressive but getting to Gorky is unusual. As with Lovenought it would be interesting to see your supply state?

Yeah well AG North had a tough time reaching Arkhangelsk even in good weather and no Opposition, the terrain slowed everyone and every thing.

with minimal cities there was a lot of Air lifts i can tell you.

Well had I known someone would be interested in the game as it was just a PVE game I might have kept it and I could have screenshot the Supply page but I deleted the game.

I can tell you from memory it was not easy trying to run rail lines around Moscow so as to keep the game going without a AUTO victory.

As you were able to see the front line past Moscow was huge and I had to break down units just to cover it.

Again a lot of Air resupply was happening and once the weather hit it was bad for the Axis in terms of supply.

This game was a bit of fun against the AI there is no way on earth in a 2 player game the front line would get that far for Axis player except maybe in the Caucuses.
