is it just me or do carrier planes gain a crazy amount of experience?

Their XP gain is the same as any other unit.

They seem to gain at the same rate as LBA, however they do not lose experience when replacements are added. Late in a game I have seen Japanese experience upwards of 90% which allowed them to do well, even with low effectiveness. However you have to be lucky and not lose the carrier while keeping it in the fight.
