O.T. and R.A.D. units - info sources

Post by Teo41_ITA »

Hi everyone! [:)]

May I ask you (Devs but not only) where did you get information about all the known battalions of Organisation Todt and the Reicharbeitsdienst (R.A.D.)? I was trying to look for more info to see if either any of the existing units were by chance moved from the Eastern front to other theatres or new units joined the Eastern front (like the O.T. 109 by the time Fall Blau begun).

Thank you very much!!

1. Keep in mind that the construction engineers in game are not 100% accurate. Nor was it ever intended to be. It is a *very* loose abstraction.

2. Once you get to the point of finding those records and trying to correlate it to the construction engineers in game, is going to be a vary convoluted affair.

In Nigel Askey's Volume IIA, he gives a fairly comprehensive breakdown of all the various flavors of construction engineers. There is only a subset that is even relative to the game with many performing functions beyond the scope of WiTE2.

For example - railroad switching, minefield clearing, bridge construction, motorized boat assaults, motorize snow clearing, ...

There is also entire command structures with no in-game counterparts. (Railroad Engineering Regiment HQs, Motorized Special Engineer Regiment HQs)

3. So, at some point, there must have been a game design decision made as to which units were going to be represented in game and their game-related functions.

4. There is a couple of web sites that have some partial information.

That should keep you busy for the next 10 - 20 years or so.

EDIT:
Was looking for the link to this PDF, that I recently came across (weird URL though) ....

Thank you Sauron_II!

I guess I will just add a bunch of RAD at the Army HQ level and that's it then. I further found these interesting articles, both mentioning the FBD units:
