while IJN heavy cruisers are formidable opponents the IJN really lacks with their light cruisers which can't be compared to the excellent modern USN CLs... still, sinking one is nice as many of them can be upgraded to CLAAs that also carry some depth charges... CL Tama blew up 180 miles West of Kendari after suffering devastating 1000lb bomb hits by USMC dive bombers...

couldn't find a picture in good quality of the real ship...

that's the current situation... as expected (better say hoped) KB was kept near Ambon to cover the invasion fleet there which enabled our SBDs at Kendari to inflict some damage on the reinforcement convoy... nearly no bombers attacked so the enemy could have as well got away completely unharmed today... as you can see we have sortied the fleet from Darwin, we are not going to directly engage KB but we are going to try to hit the enemy convoy which I expect to move away from Kendari in a South Eastern direction which could bring it in bomber range of my carriers that are going to position on the South coast of Timor...

if KB is alerted by my airstrikes and moves in to cover the convoy we might see a carrier engagement tomorrow, KB has stood down it's bombers lately, after suffering losses to my LBA fighters so I expect KB to fully act defensively... our bombers are limited to 7 hexes, 4 USMC Wildcat units are tasked to fly escort...

it's getting better as we ordered a Dutch PT boat squadron to intervene with the invasion TF still unloading at Ambon, the Japanese must have underestimated the time it takes to unload without the magic amphib bonus... was hoping for at least some collisions within the enemy convoy but the Dutch even torpedo hits on two fat xAP that still carried troops... we lose one PT to a direct hit... we really have had excellent results with our PT boats since the start of the hostilities...

as the saying is, even the best plan won't survive the first contact with the enemy... in this case the enemy convoy that was hit yesterday was turning around and is retiring towards Soerabaja, most likely until KB is freed for escort duty... the damaged ships are limping towards Java but didn't make it far... the USMC divebombers were flown back to Darwin and our carriers sitting South of Timor had no targets to strike at... even if Mundy most likely didn't even realize it was the best decision he could make...

Wow, you really need to just finish this game off and find another opponent.....Mundy seems like a first-class chap, but probably needs to work on his game. A couple random notes:

1. It's not a big deal, but WTF are Idas doing at Rabaul? The Ki-36 is about the last plane one should have at Rabaul or really anywhere outside of China

2. What's wrong with using the CS units? Agreed on conversion, but there are many months before you can convert them in most mods, you may as well use them. Lots of JAKES on search, some RUFES when those are available, and a few extra heavy AA guns in the TF won't hurt either.....(edit: except for MIZUHO, she should be ported due to speed)

I've been enjoying the regular updates, Castor. Once again an unusual situation you have here. Japan's glass sword is already showing chips.

1. no idea, probably training, nothing else to use them for but then Rabaul is the wrong place anyways

2. all my CS that can convert to CVL go back to port as they are a potential CVL and every chance to lose them means a CVL lost. Was following this tactic in all my IJ games in the last years and has given me more than just a couple of times 1500 carrier based ac in 44 if you don't lose a carrier engagement in 43. I can't remember when a CS would have made any difference in my games but the CS converted to CVL definately did many times as I only put fighters onto them and two got their own air units anyways.

Thanks. I've got a feeling this war isn't going as long as expected though as the Japanese situation is just going to become worse and worse now that I've also got Wasp to play with.

Hi CT, DBB-28C is it? If Q-ball's hands are full I am interested. My match with Francesco looks to have fallen through unfortunately so it looks like I am open for a second game.

not much combat but nav search found a target of importance as KB has left Soerabaja again covering at least one enemy convoy... this is clearly going to be the reinforcement for Ambon's attackers... this time our fleet was ordered to intercept the enemy, goal is the destruction of the IJN's carrier force and major naval forces that are about to enter the Triangle of Death again...
