RE: 13 May 44 reports

It is now 20 May 44 in game, but I’ve just had a chance to review the IJAAF fighter training program rather than edit the last week of combat reports.
Fighter Sentai are sorted here by experience level.
11th Sentai has the most kills with 900, followed by 1st Sentai with 774, then 64th Sentai with 539.
77th Sentai plus its 2x dets have 775 kills between them.

18x front line Sentai – as the Frank-R can’t match P47s for altitude, I might reduce this by a few.

4x OTU are flying CAP 100 – I need a few more of these to keep the flow of pilots building their experience from 50 to 70

25x training Sentai, mostly training Air skill as I am using Nick Force to train strafe skill.
There are still a few too many Sentai flying Air skill, so some of the higher experience ones are now training strafe.
204th Sentai will finish the current Air skills course and then change over to Strafe course.

9x FB units are flying night CAP, mostly in Burma.
That leave 14x units flying Strafe training, but some are Chutai.
That’s why a few more fighter units need to fly Strafe training to keep the throughput of trainees up.
I need to get the 40+ experience pilots into their Strafe courses then move the 50+ and 60+ pilots into CAP100% Sentai to get them to 70+

Pilot reserves are shown with marks roughly where the 50/60/70 experience levels change.
Most of the 60s experience pilots are WIA, so there are probably only about 250 fully trained 70+ experience IJAAF fighter pilots in reserve.

21 May 44 advanced report

Post by jdsrae »

Big news after the B29-1s made an appearance over Burma on 19 May 44, they tried a night strike against Magwe Oil on 21 May 44.
5th Sentai Nick-Ds shot one down and damaged a few more, with the AA gunners claiming another one. They are the first 2x B29 losses.
The A2A victory wasn't an outright kill, but there was a report of a critical hit that could have been the one credited.
There were about 5 hits in total on Magwe Oil which won't be repaired.
Every drop of the black stuff that can be withdrawn from Burma will be a bonus from this point.

---------------
The big attack near Cox’s Bazar.
Some of these Allied units are very new arrivals so they won’t have field forts yet, so they could be the ones that took casualties.

IJA 20th Div took the brunt of the attack. 1st Tank Div and one of the IJA Infantry Divs were in reserve.

82nd (WA) Div was zeroed. The combat report shows the equivalent of about 2x Allied Divisions trashed for the price of 1.
Not a bad trade, but this isn’t sustainable.
The decision to be made is whether to withdraw 1st Tank Div and leave the Infantry to their fate, or hold the hex at all costs.
Once this force crumbles there are a similar number of IJA Divisions spread along the coast, but in 1s and 2s per hex and not concentrated into a force that could block the advance.

Wow I literally took a 1 year break from this game after my previous PBEM vs deaniks fizzled out. It's good to see that your PBEM and AAR is still going strong a year later. Congratulations on making it this far and merry christmas!

jdsrae: Ki-49-IIb Helen reports object under water at 99, 61 near Kuroshima
a Japanese SS is reported HIT
Wow! Does this mean the Helen attacked its own sub?[X(]
Or are the two lines of report not connected, and something unknown hit the Japanese SS? [&:]
If the former situation is correct, that is the first friendly fire incident I have seen in the game, and qualifies for my thread about weird events.

I’ll have to check the full unedited report.
I usually edit out all but the sighting reports that have a hit after them, so there is no guarantee that the two report lines are linked.
Will report back if I can manage to fit in a quick look after Christmas lunch!

Merry Christmas to all.
Christmas miracle for me today was that I got to sleep in until nearly 7am!

Oil hits 1 – Before the war started, the Ops Plans staff prepared an estimate of when various Oil, Fuel and Resource producing bases would be lost. The Oil from Burma was always planned to be turned into Fuel for local use, with none factored in to be returned to Japan. I’ve been withdrawing Fuel and Oil for the last few months back to Singapore to keep industry operating in Malaya/Thailand and a few old CL Divs active in SWAF.
The pre-war estimate was to lose access to all Oil and Fuel production in the DEI by the end of June 1944, but that looks to be an overly conservative estimate now. Oil and Fuel are flowing back to Manila from all SWAF and Southern Fleet areas, with an excess of TK there moving it back to Japan.
I will need to find ports to hide all the excess merchant ships in once the Allies advance closer to Japan, but no doubt the B29s will eventually find them.

Aircraft Ki-102b Randy advances R&D – Fighter Bomber version, now available 7/44. It won’t have time to advance another month, so will start production on 1 Jul 44. Randy FBs will then start to replace Nick-C FB on auxiliary night fighter duty, leaving the other Nick-C to continue Strafe training. I’ve got 2x size 60 factories building the Nick-C, so I might pay the supply to change them to Randy-B and move the Randy-B research factory onto something else. The Ki-94-II can fly higher than anything the Allies can build, so the IJAAF will then get the dive bonus.

A7M2 Sam research should start to accelerate soon as the next few factories get to 30 and 3x months advance per month. The CVs have AA upgrades due in Aug 44 so they will stay in reserve until then, although I am tempted to sortie them to help defend Burma. There is a good chance that Sam will be in production once those upgrades are finished, so I will try to stay patient and keep the CVs as a reaction force.
I.21-1 on BB Fuso converting to size 24 from 1 – lots of spare pilot slots in these Jake units at the moment that will be used for training. The sub radar upgrades have kicked about 10x Glen dets ashore which are all being upsized to 24 to run NavS and ASW training courses. Graduates from those courses move to DB units for NavB training, then either to Fleet DB units, or to TB for NavT course prior to posting to TB or MB units.
Previous report of sinking of SS Capelin incorrect. Intelligence reports ship is still in service
ML G-303 arrives at Kobe

----------------
The docks at Tokyo are busy today.
109th Div and 5x IM Bdes start to load up for destinations shown here.

1st Guards are well prepared for the defence of Guam, but that is just to give them something to think about while they are on Palace Guard duty.
They will stay in reserve in Japan for the rest of the war and won’t be bought out to move anywhere.

61st Div probably won’t be bought out either, but the pre-war plan was to move it to China to join the rest of the 60s Divs there.

93rd Div is the most likely to be bought out from this list to move to Okinawa, but that isn’t urgent.
